I’m not sure I understand about your relative the psychiatrist. He cannot be an expert in clinical psychology because he did not attend graduate school for 6- 8 years. He is probably an expert on psychotropic meds. Clinical psychologist, social workers, and marriage & family therapists are usually the ones who do therapy. Training involves getting both people in a relationship engaged and feeling supported. It would be a rare case where the fault lies with one person in a dyad. </p>
