I Am Jealous

I am not only jealous of the stereotypical CCer, but other kids, as well.

I have a 2080 SAT, which is great, but there is no where near any of you CCers or top kids in my class.

I took a rigorous courseload at my school, because I wanted a happy, little stressed life. When it came to college admissions and what not, I found out the more APs/honors classes you take in high school does help you in a way.

The one thing that makes me most jealous is extracurriculars. okay, maybe school is not everything, but ecs actually tell what you can actually achieve in real life. I am 3 clubs, where I am just every other member. I have a friend who has a part-time job after school, plays a varsity sport, and has a few volunteering hours. She has like 20 hours of ECs. During the summer, she has tons. And she trumps me, or at least, I think she does, because her grades are like 3 points less than me (on the 100 point avg.), and has SAT/ACTs a few points less than me. She does all of this and she has almost the same academics as me.

i have another friend who is in ski club, does music, and takes college art classes. Her EC count is like 20 something hours a week as well. Her grades are like 4 points worse than me, and she has a higher SAT.

I devote myself like 5 hours a week for ECs. I’m a loser compared to people in my class.

I really don’t know how I will survive college, if I have this attitude.

Remember – the kids on this site are primarily a self-selecting group! They are by no means representative of the entire American high school student population as a whole. Even though I’ve attended private high schools with high average SAT scores and AP exam pass rates, I can still name quite a few people off the top of my head from those schools whom I know had absolutely no EC’s – some of them would just go out after school and smoke/drink, or simply go home and laze about and refuse to do anything. Yes, even at strong high schools, kids like that exist… I’d say you’re in a much better position than they were. :P

Oh, and the most important part – everyone from each of the high schools I’ve attended has gone on to college. Granted, some were 2-year colleges, but these were in the minority.

Well crap, you’ve done more than I have. You win on CC. :p

This site goes beyond the college’s requirements. Don’t lower your esteem when you already have a well-rounded profile.

And if you’re that worried about your ECs, join some more! [:

Your SAT score beat mine by 10 points.

your unweighted gpa is probably at least .2 higher than mine

coooooooool story.

As a person that has/had way more EC’s than neccesary, you’re actually in a good boat only having three. If you can get some kind of leadership positions in those (or even just 1), it’ll look a lot better than being solely a member of 20 things. I actually kept a lot of things that I did OFF my apps because I felt like they’d be detrimental since they looked like I was just using them to pad my resume.

Your SAT score blows mine out of the water, and I can almost guarantee that your GPA and rank do too. And there’s really no reason to compare yourself to your friends. They may have more EC’s, but they have less free time (and free time is a good thing, regardless of what people say on here) You’re not a loser :)

Losers never win, because well they lose! o_O

Lowering ones self esteem is the key recipe to making one’s self into a loser. Your SAT scores are phenomenal, if you believe you could excel more then self study this summer and retake them all. Better yet, maybe try the ACT and see if you do better. As for your EC, if you think you have not done enough ( and you have!) then, join some more. Maybe do a volunteer service or become an intern this summer, or get a part time job. Thinking yourself as a loser could only lead to a self fulfilling prophecy.

I did try the ACT. I got a 28.

I tried the SAT II German in 10th Grade and got a 750.

And yes, I have to vounteer this summer, because my school requires 35 hours.

I already have 50, but they won’t accept any hours before you are a rising senior.
