Is anybody else offended by all the praying on this season of “Survivor”? I swore I would quit watching if Boston Rob won last season and got sucked back in. But all the God talk turned me off tonight and I changed channels. I find the praying to God out of one side of their mouths and lying out the other particularly offensive.

I almost skipped the season when Coach showed up. He just makes me cringe. And Russell’s nephew is pretty awful too. I agree with you about the praying–all I could think was why would they believe that a deity of any kind would care what was happening on Survivor? There are one or two more important things going on in the world.

I watched it and kept thinking they were offending EVERYONE. Atheists/agnostics would not be on board with praying and Christians would be unhappy with pleas to God and lies to each other’s faces.

On the other hand, Ozzy volunteering to go to Redemption Island was an interesting twist.

I wanted to watch because my S went to HS and graduated with one of the women. I think we may have watched it twice. Just can’t get into it, even with someone we know on there.

There’s been a whole lot of praying for several seasons now. One of the many deliberate conflicts they set up is invariably a devout Christian against the pagans.

I think Russell’s nephew is interesting… but then I thought Russell was interesting.

I watch Survivor specifically for the scheming, the lying, and the manipulation. It feeds my inner cynic. My husband watches it for the physical challenges. He’s not so much of a cynic.

I thought I was the only one still watching. I watch for the same reasons dmd does; the challenges usually bore me. I find the praying sort of humorous, though it’s also a sad commentary on current religious thinking among a fair percentage of our population.

It’s one of the few shows our family watches together…we love hashing over the twists and turns. We had to turn it off over the disgusting “eat a pig with no hands” challenge…too gross to watch.

That was pretty gross on the pork front. But really the praying and trash talking combos don’t bother me. I mean frankly, take any given Bible Church in Texas on Sunday Morning and some folks sit in the pews, hungover from the night before, asking for God’s blessings and then they rinse and repeat the next week. As if church is one big hall pass. Just the difference between true believers and organized forgiveness.

I was thinking while watching “I am sure God has much bigger problems on his hands other than whether or not you win this challenge”. HATED the pig eating challenge. Definitely thought Ozzy volunteering to go to Redemption Island was an interesting twist. We will see if it works out in his favor. I never liked Coach. There are tons of players I would have liked to see again besides him.

The pig eating was really just pork eating! I actually thought it was pretty creative…a little gross but nothing compared to the days when they had those eat live bugs and island creatures in a blender contests! I do not miss those.
I figure those shared germs are not so bad…I mean how clean is it out there? I am thinking no purell.

I finally watched this episode… we use Tivo. Okay, the praying thing is weird, especially if you remember Coach in the old Dragonslayer days, when it seemed like he was a Buddhist. So my question is: which one of the Coach personas is his real self? He seems like a chameleon, changing his colors to manipulate his alliance. (And it’s working.)
