I Can’t Believe I’m Making A Thread About Butter…. :)

Lol, get it with the title??

It seemed a bit much to make a whole thread on butter, but wasn’t sure where else to put it and indeed, I am a bit of a butter snob. It’s one thing I won’t settle for anything that is not GOOD.

I admit to using several mentioned. Kerrygold for my butter bell. Sometimes the Kirkland grass fed knock off. Kirkland for my baking. I’ve been known to splurge on a loaf of fresh bread and a package of good French butter. I’d love to try the Isigny one mentioned!

We do keep Land O Lakes Canola in the refrig as well - husband prefers that and it’s the best non-stick I’ve found.

Do you have a preference? Agree or disagree with the ones mentioned?

I follow an American expat in France influencer and I swear half of her content is about butter.

I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter.

Do you remember the margarine “fit for a queen”?

All of the butter in our household atm is Kerrygold. We use it for cooking and baking. Around the holidays Darigold (local) will go on sale & we’ll buy the unsalted for baking.

One of my favorite parts of traveling in France is trying local butters. I have been known to gaze longingly at the selection at the Galleries Lafayette food hall. Isigny was one of the highlights of Normandy butter.

I love butter. I scooped up three packages of the Isigny last time I saw it at Whole Paycheck. I also love Banner butter.

I got your joke!

I don’t love butter. Never put it on bread or noodles or anything. Just use store brand in my baking. But ds2 swears by Kerrygold.

I get the Kerrygold generic at Aldi and it’s fabulous. It’s what I put on toast. I use Land O Lakes for baking…or whatever is on sale!

So Isigny is good?

The spreadable one or no? I have had the spreadable from from Aldi that resembles Kerrygold and I thought it didn’t have much flavor.

Land O Lakes unsalted (no salt for the French trained H)

Spreadable…and I have done side by sides with real Kerrygold with my neighbors, and no one can tell the difference.

Yes. Very good.

Isigny is rationed at our house as it’s difficult for me to get. I’ve seen many FB and Instagram posts of travelers returning from France with a suitcase full of butter!

I use unsalted Kerrygold for baking.

Land O Lakes salted for daily use.
Land O Lakes unsalted for baking.

No margarine in our house.

Vermont Creamery is also good, but not as widely available.

Yes I’ve bought that for my butter bell.

I don’t consider the LOL canola oil bitter margarine - haven’t had margarine in YEARS

Growing up my mom always got Blue Bonnet - I bet I’d hate it now!

I use Kerrygold and Plugras

There’s a difference between butters? :woman_shrugging:

(I can tell the difference between salted and unsalted. Only use unsalted.)

A funny “butter” story.
On vacation, we went shopping for groceries. Husband got butter - and he got sprayable butter (or margarine or whatever it was).
We made waffles for the kids, and two of three said they were terrible and they didn’t want to eat them. (Third had no problem at all with them).
At some point I picked up the spray butter thing, and realized husband had picked up garlic butter. The kids were NOT happy with garlic butter on their waffles!
