I cannot believe Bill Cosby flew under the radar for so long

I was wondering if Phylicia Rashad knew. He knew better to mess with her. She and her sister, Debbie, would have removed a few of his important parts.

Detailed articled on many of the women

Lisa Bonet has posted a comment on Twitter

^^
What did it say?

<a href=“Twitter messages attributed to Lisa Bonet was hoax, manager says | Fox News”>http://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/2014/11/23/lisa-bonet-cyrptic-tweets-may-hint-at-bill-cosby-scandal/</a></p>

Now there are 16 accusers who have gone public.

I lost respect for Cosby years ago when he refused to give the university commencement speech because the school wouldn’t give him an honorary doctorate degree.

I saw an interesting discussion of the Cosby situation on Melissa Harris-Perry. I was particularly struck by a comment of a Rutgers professor, who pointed out that while Cosby’s “genius” has protected him all these years, his actions against these young women may have prevented them from realizing their own genius. She has some other interesting things to say (it’s the woman in the fuschia clothes who starts speaking about 2 minutes into the clip):

It’s not just the uber successful entertainers who get away with this kind of thing.

There’s an older guy in our local music community who has been preying on young girls for years.In the past, he bragged about taking advantage of them when they were drunk. He tries to get young girls drunk at open mics so he can offer them a ride home, and do whatever he wants. He went to court once for statutory rape, but the charge didn’t stick. He’s harassed my daughter and several of her young friends, but nobody calls him out on it, they just talk about him behind his back. All of the unaffected people just laugh indulgently about how this mid 50’s man never grew up. Talk about ick.

Since I’ve seen that the girls involved in this tiny small town drama never speak up, or when they do, like my daughter and her friend, they are shushed and their complaints are invalidated, I have no difficulty believing Bill Cosby’s accusers.

I have no difficulty believing that people in power abuse their power. With all the accusations coming out, I definitely believe that he did abuse his power and would not be interested in anything of his work now. I have to admit I did used to find him funny–not always but sometimes.

I still miss Erma Bombeck, Danny Kay and Bob Hope.

I just want to add that I do understand the reluctance to “convict” via “trial by media”. I’ve seen comments on other sites that want to shut the whole conversation down, because there is no proof that would hold up in a court of law. Well, this isn’t a court of law. The victims, if it’s true, will never testify, and Bill Cosby will never face a court to answer any charges.

But isn’t that true of many if not most rape charges? What kind of proof do we have, except for the rape kit, which, think about it. 1969. DNA testing?

Is the solution to shut women up, because they don’t have proof, or to reprimand them because they didn’t come forward soon enough? I’ve seen comments that call them “as guilty as Cosby” for not preventing future victims by not coming forward.

I believe the women. Some of these girls are now in their 70s, and I don’t think they are looking for a payout, or attention, as some (not here) suggest. I’ve read some of their stories, and I personally find them believable. I honestly believe that if I was humiliated like that when I was a girl, I wouldn’t have reported it, and I would have kept the secret for the rest of my life. I say this because I had situations where I was abused, and I said nothing. Embarrassing incidents that I preferred to bury, and only brought up to my family and friends now that I’m safely older and I have a daughter who needs to know how some people think/act.

This whole situation really drives home the fact that we have still sooooo far to go in terms of women’s rights. I keep going back to Whoopi Goldberg’s comment about rape kits. I mean, really!!! THAT from a woman!!!

NPR has been playing a clip of Cosby joking about a date rape drug called Spanish Fly. It is so not funny. And in light of the recent allegations pretty horrific. <a href=“Bill Cosby - Spanish Fly - YouTube”>Bill Cosby - Spanish Fly - YouTube;

From reading the CNN stories, most of the “rapes” were described circuitously, like “he offered me pills and I took them” and “I felt I had to keep having sex with him”. How do you figure out well after the fact whether it was a bad relationship or rape?

Clearly the Roman Polanski case (drugging a 13 year old and raping her) is beyond the pale.

But is it beyond the pale to party with women? Is that some kind of infringement upon women’s rights?

I don’t believe anyone about what really happened, neither the women nor Cosby. A lot of people regret what they did in the time of “free love”. I am not saying they weren’t raped, but if you read the CNN story, you will wonder.

Bill Cosby facing litany of allegations - CNN;

Several of the cases say that the women “cried” and he did not have sex with them therefore. Very fuzzy.

So - is the woman’s memory what determines rape? Was he sober (he supposed had a drug/alcohol problem) at the time (no excuse, but then again, would mental illness/sex addiction be an excuse?)?

Messy, very messy. I am very glad I am not famous.

His more recent image was built on family friends entertainment and haranguing the black community about responsibility and family values. Whether he drugged and raped these women or “just” drugged and had semi-passed out sex with them and some forced fellatio is immaterial as far as his “legacy” is concerned. Either way he has lost any credibility to lecture and finger wag at the masses.

The Daily News ran a story from an NBC employee who says he was Cosby’s “fixer” who stood guard on the door and handed payments to women and girls. He says Cosby had a relationship with a modeling agency who’d bring him girls as young as 16, that Cosby would make his selection and tell this guy to guard the door. He said it was clear what was going on.

I was wondering when one of the enablers would flip. Ciao, Bill Cosby. Is the statute of limitations up for all the accusers?

Maybe as a man people will find him more believable

He’s a now 90-year old former NBC employee who worked with Cosby in the late 80’s until 1990. People believe all of this. Even NBC believes this and he made more money for NBC than anyone else ever and they have canceled him.

ew, ew, ew.
