Good. Spelman is a women’s college. They should use every penny to deal with issues of crimes against women.

Sort of off topic but revealing: I was just watching a PBS special on Peter, Paul and Mary. As I watch I google them individually. Lo and behold, something I never knew. Peter Yarrow is a convicted sex offender. He had ‘sexual improprieties’ (undefined) and served three months in prison. The child was 14. He was later pardoned (why?) by Jimmy Carter.

Now of course this was never mentioned in the fawning praise offered by the PBS hosts.

Just goes to show that celebrities are forgiven for actions that are simply unforgivable.

Ugh!! Not that I’m into them . . . before my time . . . but ugh!

Maybe it’s just a creepy PBS thing . . . Cosby was a PBS guy too. Quick, defund! Return the tote bag!

We can add The Frugal Gourmet to the list of sleazy PBS people involved in sex scandals. Hmmm.

@emeraldkity4

Just 2 weeks ago, I had a discussion with a friend about the funds he and Camille gave to Spelman. That was almost 30 years ago. That’s a pretty big chunk of change for a school like Spelman to return. They may not have it to give.

We need to start a list of celebs, politicos and other infamous creeps who sexually assaulted men, women or children. The list would be long and sad to say some are still held in high regard.

And yes, I’m disgusted with PBS for fawning over Yarrow in the most unctuous way, in a bid for donations from viewers, never mentioning his conviction for child sexual assault.

Add Woody Allen to that list. Sexual assault of your daughter (and later marrying your stepdaughter) is a whole 'nother level of venality.

I had no idea about Peter Yarrow! I won’t be able to listen to PPM songs with the same enjoyment again. His crime/conviction must have happened in those years when they were in semi-obscurity.

I also agree about Woody Allen. I stopped watching his movies when that happened.

It happened in 1969. He plead guilty in March, 1970. Pardoned by Carter in 1981. At least I think consciousness of the heinousness of these crimes is such today that no president would pardon a convicted child molester.

Woody Allen made me want to throw up even before all that came out about his activities. I don’t listen to Michael Jackson anymore either, although I will listen to him with the Jackson Five.

Why in God’s name did Carter pardon him? I can only imagine how his victim and her family felt about that. And if he did it once, it’s likely that he did it more than once.

His apology was that all musicians were taking sexual license in those days. Some apology.

He also said “I was wrong. I’m sorry.” That’s an apology.

I note, in passing, that Yarrow served his time, apparently didn’t commit any other offenses, and put a lot of time and money into philanthropy over the years. I prefer somebody like that getting a pardon to somebody who never served any time for the crime.

As to Cosby, the more I learn about his methods, the more I understand why he got away with it. He has a need to drug women, which means it’s more about control and some other fantasy situation in his head. I’ve now read stories in which women relate they were drugged even though they would gladly have had sex with him. It’s one thing to allege a rape but another to allege something so outlandish as drugging. That kind of behavior is so beyond the pale, you can imagine no one taking your seriously; you’re saying this extremely famous man with such a reputation for public good is a serial rapist whose methods are sociopathic.

As to musicians (and actors), I have issues with all of them. You hear the stories about Led Zeppelin’s rampant abuse of women - leaving girls chained up in closets for days just because they could. And that’s not getting at the R. Kelly’s of this world who are actual predators on the underage. Rob Lowe says he didn’t know that girl was 16. And so on. On the one hand, I know the girls weren’t kidnapped by Led Zeppelin but I fault them for being unethical assholes. Which is the reality of many celebrities.

Actually what I read was that the 14 yr old girl was kidnapped by Jimmy Page.
While she didn’t seem to be held against her will, I don’t think a minor can give consent to have sex with an adult.

The tabloids are speculating that Camille Cosby may have finally had enough.
It does appear that she suspected what was happening.

Morgan Freeman. Married his step granddaughter. Apparently they had carried on a relationship for a long period of time. I used to absolutely love his acting. Now, I can’t stand the sight of him.

^^^Wow, I never knew about that one (M.F.).

Hey, I’m not out to defend anyone, but really the Woody Allen thing (Post #167) with his stepdaughter was never never proved.

The story about Morgan Freeman is apparently a malicious rumor with no basis in fact, according to press reports available by Googling.
