My couselor basically dropped me into geometry as a freshman (I had never taken alg 1) and I went through it, got a B+. Since then I’ve taken Alg II, Functions Trig, AP Statistics, and am enrolled for AP Calc BC. However, my counselor is scaring me that since I didn’t take Alg I, I wasn’t filling college “requirements” in the math section. Is this true for UVA?

Idk, but I never took Algebra II. I was in Algebra II sophomore year for a month and then moved out-of state. My counselor (and the math teacher) here said I already knew plenty and so I took pre-Calc (math analysis) instead.

I was accepted to UVa this year.

You’ve taken plenty of math. Lack of Algebra I won’t matter in that case.

why would they hold it against you if you’re in bc now? that’s ridiculous

I think most colleges will be very happy to see AP Calc BC and won’t be concerned about Algebra at all. Many students take Algebra 1 in middle school these days. We don’t see it on many transcripts these days. Your progression sounds completely normal to me.
