I Don't Feel Comfortable In An Honors Class

I just started ninth grade. Yeah even though, I had a great grade in Social Studies last year, I feel so uncomfortable in Global Honors. The teacher is good, but I just feel that the I don’t belong in the class, because the kids seems so perfect. But I’ve known all the kids since 7th Grade and are even friends with them.

You are a noob. None of your classmates are even remotely close to perfect.
Even if they made a “elite” class in Phillips Exeter or TJHSST, there would still be no perfect people in there.

Global Honors is a joke class. Don’t be so f***ing naive.

Unless you see them qualifying USAMO/USAPO/USALO/USABO/USNCO/USAPhO/ISEF/Scholastic A&W and taking complex analysis in 9th grade, with a 2400 SAT that they got in 7th grade, and a 36 ACT in 8th, and they run their own internationally recognized nonprofit and a $40 million hedge fund that survived the economic downturn, with world championship qualifiers in track/another sport, and they’re president of all school clubs/football QB/captains/etc. They also go to school in inner city and minority schools in order to tutor/make an impact on their classmates. It can go on.

There should be no reason for you to feel uncomfortable in an honors class.
Honors classes are complete jokes even in the most rigorous high schools. Awkward would be taking math 55 at Harvard in 9th grade.

esmee, its completely normal to feel uncomfortable in your first honors class. it seems like everyone is five steps ahead of you and you are behind. stick it out- all will soon become clear and you will be one of the people who seem perfect.

I went through a lot of this last year (junior), actually.

I moved myself up in science, english AND history. So I had AP Lang + WHAP. While work-wise it was pretty easy, I, like you, was constantly feeling inferior to the kids who had been in high level classes all along. But, basically, lesson is I was qualified – I ended up with a 4 and a 5 on my APs and a 3.7 gpa. Really, it’s not worth worrying about you’re probably just as smart as the other kids. Don’t let their egos get to you! Good luck!

Ignore what Advanced Lawlz said.

Pay attention to what nil desperandum said.

I went into my first honors class ever (chem) with NO chem background whatsoever and I was freaking out when on the first day, the teacher showed us a Powerpoint of chemical symbols and everyone was naming them like they’d done it their whole life.

But I ended up doing very well. Just work hard and you’ll be fine :)

Listen to advanced lawlz.

I’ve never felt uncomfortable in an honors class. I feel uncomfortable in regular classes.

Zapz and advanced lawlz are clearly ■■■■■■, and Zapz has an interestingly large ego based on the posts I’ve seen him make.

It is a bit understandable to be “uncomfortable” at how good they are, but try not to let that get in your way.

This. I even feel uncomfortable in easier APs, like World History. Someday, you’ll feel like that too. It just comes with the territory. You’ll be fine, just don’t freak out.

“Zapz and advanced lawlz are clearly ■■■■■■, and Zapz has an interestingly large ego based on the posts I’ve seen him make.”

I have no ego at all. You don’t hear me saying I, I, I, I, I and I (well, I do say I, it’s pretty impossible not to say I, but I don’t brag or anything). I just think some people are babbling idiots. Also, I am very literal. I say what I think. No offense, esmee16. And I am no ■■■■■. I am a homosapien. Thank you.

you’ll be fine! you’ll get the hang of it soon. and if you’ve known these people since middle school, they probably haven’t suddenly become perfect. I’m sure you’re as smart as them, or maybe even smarter! don’t let them bring you down :)

they’re like a pair of sneakers; give them a month or two to break in.

You’re psyching yourself out, which in itself could be your downfall. Don’t pay attention to anything anyone else is doing. Focus on yourself and you should be fine. If you find you’re struggling in the class, do whatever it takes (talk with the teacher, get a tutor, purchase some additional [cheap] textbooks) to catch up.

advanced lawlz is ridiculous!! As a freshmen it is good you are starting out in honor classes. Stick with that crowd…trust me  Use that uncomfortable feeling as your motivation. Remember that school just started and that it only prepares you for whats to come later on in your HS career

That’s called the Impostor Phenomenon, an unofficially recognized syndrome where the subject feels as if he or she doesn’t belong in a certain group despite contradictory proof.

You said you did well last year.

You gave no indication of bad grades this year.

“The teacher is good, but I just feel that the I don’t belong in the class, because the kids seems so perfect.”

As long as you don’t give up, nothing bad will happen.

Maybe you’re just not very intelligent? That’s why you feel so inferior all the time?

^That’s what I expected niki to say.

I loled .

Don’t worry, they are actually all really stupid. They just try to act smart in the honors course…

Which honors class are you taking?
