I Don't Want to Do This Anymore.........

Chemistry Olympiad

I am the only student at my high school that will be taking the Chemistry Olympiad local exam and that is if I don’t back out in the next two days.

I don’t stand a chance at Chemistry Olympiad and I mean not all. I take REGULAR chemistry right now and I don’t even understand any of the material on the Chemistry Olympiad exam. In fact, I sat down and did one of the past local exams and got a 10 out of 60 on it.

I don’t walk in on exam day and make a fool of myself. I don’t want to waste two hours and more hours studying for the next two days, because I am disillusioned and feel that I have a chance at this. But I also don’t want to quit, because I was the only student that has ever even thought of doing Chemistry Olympiad that my Chemistry teacher has ever had (and she’s writing my college rec.)

What the hell do I do? Stay in it or back out?

-Sincerely yours, an extremely struggling Chemistry student.

Worst case scenario, you lose less than two hours of your time and if you don’t do well, there are no repercussions.

awww pm me

If the Chem Olympiad is a four-possibility multiple choice test (A, B, C, D), then it’s pretty funny that you scored worse than a random guess. But maybe you’ll get lucky on test day and qualify. Plus, you’ll learn more in studying for it! Like dblazer said, worst-case scenario is you lose a few hours of time. Good luck!

Do not chicken out. It’s a win-win situation. You could either not do well but still have learned new stuff by studying for the olympiad, or you could pass and qualify(another award for your app). I’m pretty sure some of your juniors in school are looking up to you, since you’re the first person from your school to compete in unsco. If you quit, you will be letting yourself, your juniors, and your school in general down.
