We ordered all new furniture for our room. Yah! I’m 60 years old and have been living with really old, like before we were married, furniture.
I wanted the location of all the pieces exactly the same, as it fits our room very nicely that way. When I was measuring the pieces, everything fit perfectly.
Then we decided to buy a padded headboard with rails and footboard. I forgot to take into account the added inches, which is only 8 inches more. But I needed the 8 inches.
Envision our bed on the wall, with 2 nightstands. The wall next to the nightstand, we had a chest going there. Now, there won’t be enough room for me to stand in front of the chest and get in it. Can’t move everything the other way, because the closet is there and we need to stand in front of it.
Furniture comes tomorrow. Head banging on desk.
So that means we will have to put both the dresser/mirror and chest on the opposite wall of the bed. No room on the other wall as the register is there and I need room for my curtains panel.
So, I know I’m not going to like this look. I had a dresser and a desk on the wall before and never liked two pieces of furniture there.
How can I decorate this wall? Do I just leave space, or should I put something between the two. Argh. Wish I had just stuck with a headboard now, but the padded rails and footboard just looked so “up to date”.
I also have this weird corner now by the nightstand. Not enough room for a chair.
Rectangular room (but not much). Door to room on south side of rectangle over on the east side.
Standing in doorway looking north is the big wall where bed and nightstands will go. (Very feng shut for bed location). On the west wall is our window, but it’s off center, pushed over more to the south.
We would have put the chest on the west wall, north of the window. It would have faced east (faced our bed).
South wall is empty.
East wall is a large 2 door closet with a door next to it that leads to the vanity area, bathroom and walk in closet .
I hope that wasn’t too confusing. We need both pieces.
@momofsenior1 , the SW corner is where out register is. I had thought of that, too.
So, the issue is that because of the foot/head boards, the bed is wider? If so, could you put the night stands slightly in front of the headboard and slide the the night stands up against the bed? Would that give you enough room for the chest where you wanted it originally?
At very worst, could you return the head/foot board?
Thanks for giving it some thought. The headboard was custom made, we picked out the studs that go around the shape and then had it tufted. Could probably return the rail and footboard, but they are so cool. DH says just to wait and see.
How about a cushy short bench between the dresser and chest. Something to short to balance the tall on either side - and a place where you could sit and put shoes on, pull on tights, etc.
They don’t make narrower nightstands with the set, I took a look. I think it’s gorgeous furniture, and don’t want to replace with something else. I chose my new carpet and paint to match this furniture! I do like the idea of a bench!
Also you might be surprised and come up with another option once you get it all in the room and live with it a little bit. Give yourself the grace time to figure it out.
So you do not like two pieces next to each other in a row… A Bench is a good idea to break up the two pieces. An interesting large floor vase with some branches in it? ?
I’m going to run to the hardware store to buy some furniture movers things to put on the edges of furniture to scoot. Home goods is a good idea… These pieces are heavy!
You’re all right. I need to give myself time to live with it. It’s so much much bigger than my other furniture, that in itself will take some time to get used to.
Right now my room looks so clean and fresh without anything in it.
Consider a nice big plant rather than a bench between pieces of furniture to break up the line visually. For me, a bench would just seem like another thing in a line.
