I hate everything about my college

I go to Mohawk Valley CC in Utica New York and there is no words I can put together to say how much I hate this school. The staff is friendly but very few teachers care about their students, the dorms are super out dated, and the social life/ students here are awful. I just cant stand this place and the people any suggestions?

Well, you know that your time at a CC is limited so if you are in your first year, you can try to transfer for Fall 2016. however, some universities only take transfer applications from incoming Juniors. YOu need to look into the requirements for the schools you are interested in and see what courses you need to take and whether they accept incoming Sophomores. If you are a Sophomore now, then realize that it will only be one more academic year.

Keep busy. Get a job, work your tail off I your coursework, see if there are any campus organizations you can join. Get through this year, and consider transfer applications in the spring if you are still unhappy. Great grades are the key to good opportunities, so focus on that. Before signing up for classes next semester, see what you can find out about the profs – ask around, look at Ratemyprofessor if your school is in it. Try to get the best ones. Sometimes you may have to take inconvenient class times to get them, but it can be worth it.

why do you live in a dorm at a community college…

I’ll agree with @intparent maybe you should try to keep yourself busy just so the place would suck a little less. In that way you might be able to think of ideas why you love your school.

The community college in my home town has dorms. Some do…

but if you’re in your home town… why don’t you just live at home?

I am sorry you are having this experience. You might get more helpful suggestions by saying how it was that you ended up there, what your plans had been, etc. Also tell us about your high school grades and credentials. If it is your first year, be a little more patient. I know a ton of students who hated their school in the first month and then ended up loving it. But, that is obviously the best case scenario. Can you describe what about the other students you don’t like. Are they very dissimilar to the friends you had in high school? Faculty at Community colleges can be hit or miss. Some are very dedicated to teaching. Others are disgruntled to have ended up at a place that does not support their scholarship. CC tend to support teaching over scholarship/research. Still others are teaching to earn a few extre $k’s but have full time jobs and little time to devote to teaching.

I understand why you are living in the dorms-you want the traditional college experience and also want to be independent of daily oversight by parents. That makes complete sense to me. So the solution for you is not necessarily moving home. I’ll await your reply to make suggestions.

@OhSorryYo, I said MY hometown, not the OPs. Some people don’t live close enough to a CC to commute, or the ones near home don’t offer the course of study they want.
