We bought a new computer and I hate it! It has “vista” and all I can say is that it’s slow and frustrating! Anyone else?

I concur .

My daughter agrees with you and so does the IT dept at her college. All students are required to buy a computer through them.

She does not talk about slow, but says it is “wonky.”

“wonky”, good word. I just get frustrated because I was USED to the old format and I know that they only did this “update” so that everyone would have to buy more stuff. My H says that he has banned it as his office because it just has too many bugs. Why don’t they fix this crap before they put it out?

fwiw, it was the same when xp came out, and me, and 2000, and 98, and 95…

I just bought a PC with Vista on it and it seems fine. Actually, it’s kind of cool. If it goes wonky on me though, I’ll be in your camp.

Every time I hear how horrible Vista is…I kiss my Mac :)

We got vista on a new computer for my gal - and she really likes it alot - tho before we gave it to her - we somewhat doctored it a bit - removed a couple of things from the computer - got rid of the heavy laden Norton’s/McAfee completely - (replaced it with something that uses very little resources) and she has not had a problem with it at all. We really did some homework on it before we got it tho - was well worth it. We also made absolutely sure that all software is Vista compatable - alot of past stuff is not and thus causes problems. No problems yet - and she has had it for several months now.

I hate Vista as well. I turned off the “Aero” interface. I wish I had ordered my PC with XP preinstalled instead.

I don’t hate Vista, but I don’t want to marry it, either. It does take some getting used to, though…especially for the new Word 2007, since I have to relearn where everything is!

I haven’t had any problems with Vista. One issue I’ve had is the IE likes to quit working or quit responding for absolutely no reason. Otherwise I’ve been pretty happy with it.

My question is why fix something that is not broken? The “updates” are just a scheme to make more money and they force everyone to update by making future software incompatible with XP stuff. My next computer will be a mac. I’ll take a course if I have to. H says most businesses are not changing over until it’s been out for long enough to work out the bugs. Oh Boy! We get to be the ones on the phone with “customer support” until then! We tried to hook up a wireless printer to it. What a joke. It took my H (Who is a CTO at a computer software company) all day to do it and three hours on the phone with the “support people.” He was not fun to be around that day, let me tell ya!

I think Microsoft took about five years to develop Vista.

If anyone wants to know why monopolies are bad, Vista is just one example. My favorite example of why Microsoft is horrible is Zune. It came out about seven years after Apple launched the ipod and it has little functionality but a high cost. Almost anything Apple is better than anything Microsoft.

This is my only complaint–wasn’t aware I could blame Vista for it though. I was blaming my wireless router 'cuz it works again if I unplug and plug back in.

Interesting… can’t blame it on the router… I dont have a router at school :)

And I’m not sure if Vista is to blame for it either… IE7 can be had on XP as well.

We have a mixed wireless network of XPs and a Vista. Even when the Vista one is gone to school, hang ups happen. The turning on/off router trick works, so it is not a Vista problem, at least in our house.

I would not want to switch to Vista personally, because the older I get, the harder it is to learn new tricks. New Vista Word freaked me out, because the toolbar looked way different. DD, on the other hand, pluged her laptop in and started playing. Most of her software runs OK on Vista, and a really outdated device given to her 5 years ago needed updating anyway.

Sarasmom, you need at least 2 gig of RAM to run Vista full speed.

razorsharp, you have not tried running scientific software on Macs - it is horrible ;)

Negative…
Windows>>>>> Mac OS

But diesel is right - all OS’s are a little buggy at first. Give it time (unless Vista turns out like ME, which just sucked forever)

I’ve heard a rumor that Microsoft was considering scrapping Vista. Anybody else hear that?

How bout this question… anybody hear when the NEXT operating system is scheduled to come out from Microsoft? You know they’ve already started…

I’ve finally adjusted to Vista, but it could be so much better. It took them forever to release full driver support, and it doesnt run quite as fast for me as XP did despite the fact that my laptop is pretty powerful (1 GB of ram is holding it back I guess, but you’d still think that would be plenty for an operating system)

I like dreamscene and the right sidebar though.

I seriously hope that’s not why you’re moving to Apple. Mac OSes tend to lose backwards compatibility worse than any other operating system in existence. Things like “support periods” don’t even exist as far as Apple is concerned. All your issues here are far, far worse on the other side.

New operating systems tend to be buggy and have compatibility issues. As service packs get released, these problems tend to get solved. That’s just the way it is.
