I have always done bad in french, but never to this level. Is there anyway I can recover from this, like that is the best thing to do because these are being sent with the mid year report to all the colleges, like should i write letters to them…I am so sad now, anyway can you tell me what will happen in relation to the schools I applied to…My cumulative GPA will remain the same, even with the Cumm. 4.16

Don’t panic - I doubt 1 C is going to kill you

should i write to the colleges, explaining the situation? My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer during winter vacation and I have been driving her to chemo and having to miss school, causing me to fall behind, should i tell the schools about this? This is really private in my family and I dont want my counselors and stuff to know.

my grades have been a,a,a,b,b,c

Dude what french level is this ?

P.S. Is Psychology your 6th IB Subject then ?

this is IB French 5.

My ib subjects are: math, history, bio, french, lit, and TOK

One grade for one class will not ruin your entire transcript!

I can assure you this will not hurt you the way you are thinking, your chances are still excellent. First of all having a full IB program in itself is not only ultra ambitious but if you are doing well in them, then thats amazing! These are looking even higher upon than AP’S!! Just do your best to turn it around the second half of the year because remember they will only see your final grade for the year so you can work ultra hard these next two semesters, keep your chin up and good luck!

…You shameless attention grabber… >_>

You look fine for most of them.

its just that my SAT isn’t that great and if I am considered for admission than it will be borderline and this could push it the wrong way

I’m sorry that this is a little out of the topic… but could nayone explain to me what the difference is between unweighted and weighted GPAs are?

Unweighed is basically the exact grades, but weighed adjusts the GPA as per the rigour of the subject (such as a B can become an A if it’s an AP Class, however most schools have their own method)

SATs are weak for UC Berkeley & UCLA.

Good chance at UCSD.

Your High School actually matters. The UCs and USC definitely knows which are the powerhouse public HS of California. Graduates from these publics are highly regarded even with lower GPAs because of the academic rigor of such schools and the accomplishments of alumni from those schools.

These include Whitney, Arcadia, Lynbrook, Saratoga, University (Orange), Palo Alto, Mission San Jose, and Lowell, my alma mater among others.

So if you’re form one of the elite CA public HS that sends lots of students to top schools, you don’t have to worry as much.

Of course you’re ****in screwed.

Colleges don’t tolerate at all those kind of grades.

Maybe if you get an 800 in SAT II french, they will consider your application.

But it’s pretty doubtful, good luck!

this is hilarious.

you fine.

the others on this board became instantly insecure when they saw your stats and started to get hostile. ignore.^^^^^

If you truly feel that one C in an IB class warrants the title “I HAVE RUINED MY LIFE,” then for goodness’ sake, defer college and find a way to gain a bit of perspective.

You will be fine. Your SATs are low for most of the schools you’re applying to (if it were earlier in the process, I’d advocate for a more definite safety), but the rest of your application looks stellar. Furthermore, French seems unrelated to your intended path. If you’re still worried, talk to your counselor and say that there have been personal circumstances that contributed to your low grade and you’re curious as to whether an explanation is necessary. You do not need to elaborate. My assumption is that she will say no (especially since the low grade–which, by the way, is an AVERAGE grade–is only in one class and not across the board).

Seriously, chill. And best of luck, all around.

Elite CA public HS’s my ass… Are we assuming that these high schools have a rigorous academic course, just because they offer a load of AP courses and are stuffed full with Asians??? (Whitney is 85% Asian). And what do accomplishments of alumni have to do with anything?

Who fed you that information? Or did you guys just assume that to make yourselves feel good?

lol. Lynbrook is filled with asians which is why it is an academic powerhouse. The courses are fairly hard depending on your schedule. Besides, they are quite rigorous, especially classes like AP lit and apush… A few of my friends tell me that Stanford EECS is “very easy” in comparison to senior year at Lynbrook (well, if you piled on the aps like me and him).

I doubt that colleges care if your high school is hard though.

How disgusting. Just go to a Community College, you’ll never amount to anything now.

well, it not that I am saying i am going to die with a C it is just that my SAT score is so average and i am borderline if anything at any colleges. Sorry to all of you who think that I am trying to exaggerate this.
