I belive I will be getting a D in my second semester senior(highschool) year honors physics class, and im not sure if i can make it up in time. I will still be graduating, Im a california resident and my gpa is a 4.21-4.23, and my Junior year GPA was a 4.6 weighted. My other senior grades arent the best too but im planning on brinign AP Gov to a B, and will try my best for statistics(C). Our school does not provide unweighted but I would estimate it to be a 3.7-3.8. I applied undeclared physical science and I am an indian student who lives in the bay area. BY the chance i get in, will my offer be rescinded because of my crappy grades. Ive been sick and its been hard to catch up with work. For comparison, I got into UIUC for the ischool.
I can’t tell you for sure if your admission would be rescinded. Sometimes, universities will accept a written explanation for a drop in grades. However, it would really be much better not to end up with a D in any of your classes, as in addition to the UCs, it may also affect your admission to other universities such as UIUC. It is only February so there may be time to get that grade up to a C. Talk to your teacher and see if you can retake something or make up work, or if they have other advice for you.
A C- is often the lowest acceptable drop. A D is considered a failing grade by many colleges. The B and C are probably fine and nothing to worry too much about. The D could be a problem. You should meet with your teacher ASAP and see if there are any options to raise your grade. It’s only February - doesn’t the semester end in May or so? Surely that’s time to raise it? Get a tutor, do what you have to do, but get that grade above a D if you possibly can.
he thinks i cheated on a test and decided to give me a 0, so im not rlly sure abt that. I really didnt cheat, our school is just incredibly lousy with the way the handle things, but they dont send them to colleges
Have a plan - either get the grade up or before the admissions deadline, get a surefire school.
I’m not sure why Merced’s policy will be different than others - but check with each.
Hopefully you don’t need a safety hatch - but it’s good to have one just in case. You needn’t do anything with it now but having a good idea so you beat any deadline.
“ In order to be considered for admission, applicants must have earned a minimum GPA of 3.0 (3.4 for nonresidents) in all A-G courses completed in grades 10 and 11, with no grade lower than a C .”
Usually the UCs say no more than two Cs and no grades below a C- (as their conditions of admissions), but the OP will need to double check that. It should be stated on the admissions letter.
for senior year grades, i belive that they stated that they might rescind, but if not, i will need to write a handwritten note and redo it over the summer
Like I said, you can ask generically the schools. Call and talk to an admission officer.
And no reason to be scared - because there are plenty of schools you can apply to as a safety valve that will get you to the same place in life…assuming you can afford them.
A school like Arizona is OUTSTANDING in the sciences and has great merit aid. And there’s more, many more schools.
No reason to panic.
Find out your answer - and in the meantime, get your grade up. If you can’t, then find that safety valve.
In the meantime, if you were caught cheating but didn’t, work with your folks and the teacher to find out why they think you did and what evidence there is - and move up to the principal if you cannot a satisfactory response.
our school is pretty rigged, im 99% sure its gonan end in a referral, those dont get sent to colleges so that why our school isnt as pressing with them. Yet it affects students like this
It would be stated on the admissions letter for Merced, but I think the OP is also thinking about UCs that haven’t released decisions yet.
I agree with you that UCs typically are OK with a C grade, but a D would be cause for concern.
For UIUC, it seems from poking around that students report being asked for a written explanation to avoid being rescinded if UIUC sees a significant drop in senior year grades.
Forget about college for the moment. This is what you need to be focusing on addressing. Meet with the teacher, meet with an advisor / counselor at school, meet with someone in the administration who can resolve this. Especially if you’re nearing a quarter break, you’ll want to get on top of it asap.
I think the D is going to be a problem for any UC that the OP is admitted to. Hopefully they can meet with the teacher or perhaps a guidance counselor and find a way to raise the grade at least to C-.
