Basically, I’ve had a chronic ankle injury for the last 6 years and walking on uneven surfaces, especially while carrying heavy things, is HORRIBLE for my injury. That being said, I needed a schedule change (I’m in high school) because my schedule entailed me carrying ~30 lbs of marching band equipment up (and down) 3 flights of stairs and down a hill, which wrecked my ankle. Unfortunately, injuries weren’t listed as a reason on the schedule change form so I had to email my counselor directly. Unfortunately again, she didn’t reply until the day before the schedule change deadline, and she said I needed a doctor’s note to validate my injury. She gave me an extension of 2 days (by September 9), but I’m afraid that won’t be long enough to get a doctor’s note.
I NEED this schedule change, or else my ankle will suffer even more damage that it already has. How long does it usually take to get a doctor’s note? And would I have to see my doctor first?
It shouldn’t take long, depending on how busy the practice is you could schedule an appointment tomorrow. You make an appointment on the nearest date possible, and the doctor gives you a note right then and there. So it basically all comes down to the day of your scheduled appointment.
Go directly to your counselor's office and explain your situation instead of waiting for her email if this is possible.
She may have many emails to read.
Call your doctor's office to request an urgent appointment. If the doctor has your injury record then he/she may be able to quickly write an evaluation/recommendation, otherwise he/she has to exam you.
@coolweather My counselor already knows the situation. She’s the one who said I needed a doctor’s note, but I still have to get it by this Friday. Plus, she’s already given me an extension (albeit a tiny one…) so I can’t go asking for another one.
Call the doctor’s office now. If your regular doctor is not available soon, they may have a different doctor to see you. Tell the nurse that you need an urgent doctor note for school enrollment. If you cannot call then ask your parents to help. Nothing else you can do here.
