I need help finalizing my schedule for next semester! ASAP

I’m a freshman and I’m STILL trying to perfect my schedule for this semester. Right now I have math/stats 425, 4th semester language, astro 104, and a FYWR. I’m very very confused about how majors work. Am I allowed to take a major class BEFORE I complete ALL of the pre-reqs for the major? I’m thinking about a stats major, econ major, math of finance/risk management, or actuarial math major. MATH/STATS 425 is required for stats, finance, and actuarial math major. However, there are still some pre-reqs for those majors that I haven’t completed yet. (Math 217; I did 215 this past semester)

Are you allowed to take major courses before you complete ALL of the required pre-reqs for those respective majors?

Also, to any stats majors is it possible to take MATH/STATS 425 BEFORE I do STATS 250??? 425 (intro to probabiltiy) is obviously more in-depth than 250, but I haven’t found anything that explicity says you can’t take it out of order like that.
My plan of taking MATH/STATS 425 right now is so I can do an actuarial exam this summer.

@jm9715 Yes you are. Don’t worry about it too much.

Heck for a lot of majors you can declare before you’re done with your pre-reqs. Taking certain classes before you declare is no problem at all.

@jm9715 … From the course catalog, it looks like the only pre-req for STATS 425 is MATH 215 so you should be fine to take that course. Most scheduling programs won’t allow you to schedule a course unless you’ve met the pre-reqs, but something can always fall through the cracks. If you haven’t done so, you need to set up a meeting with your advisor to go over your plans for a major. They will help make sure that you’re aware of all the requirements and come up with a gameplan/roadmap to get you headed in the right direction. You don’t have to do it on your own…it’s what they’re paid to do.
