I never thought I would do this...

I think I will narrow down my search. Personally, I think it’d be much better if I’d spent 90% of my time on the Exeter app and got in, instead of 20% spread thin. I think I’m going to go with four schools, max:
Exeter, Andover, Lawrenceville, Mercersburg.
I’m the kind of person that will revise and revise and revise, and etc.,
This would limit them to eight recs \ teacher, perhaps less.

I’ve picked up the CB’s “Blue Book”, and this weekend I will send in the online apps. I’m getting about 0 - 1 wrong per math section, so thats good  The reading is a whole other story.
Best get steppin’! ;)

Don’t forget that 10 boarding schools allow you to use a common recommendation form to make it easier for your teachers.

Actually, I think all the schools accept the common recommendation form for math and english. I think they all accept the common school report. http://www.schools.com/apply/forms.html</a> . Some schools accept the common application which you will find on the link. At this point the 10 schools common recommendation is identical to the common recommendation you will find on the link above. Some schools will ask for additional recommendations and an optional special talent form which can vary by school.

So for the math, english and school report, your recommenders only have to do this once for however many schools you apply to.

Do check with the school first to make sure the common recommendation form is ALL that they need.

BTW, not all prep schools accept the common form (although a high percentage do). In our case only 1 of the 3 we applied to accepted it, so at least one of our daughter’s teachers was getting a bit frustrated when presented with 3 forms. Now granted we did not apply at the schools most frequently called out on this forum, so YMMV.

Well, I sent in my inquiry forms for Exeter and Andover. They should arrive by next week.
Because of the on-campus interviews, I’m going to try to limit my schools to three… Lawrenceville, M’Burg, or another? Or should I apply to all four, and try to schedule interviews? I live quite far away…

If you and your family can schedule trips to the schools you like, it would be worthwhile. If you cannot do this, you can talk to admissions about having an alumni interview. During the fall, admissions representatives go to school fairs in many states. You may be able to arrange an interview if someone is near your town. If accepted, you will be invited to a re-visit day. These are generally scheduled late March/1st week of April. It really would be best for you to do the visits then if you are not able to do them now. If you do not tour and interview at the schools this fall/winter, I urge you to go to every re-visit of schools that accept you. You may find that your feelings about certain schools change once you visit.

Agh, I’m tired of this already. ==’
I wanna get out of this place as soon as possible. I’m bored out of my wits, and as a result I’m not paying attention in class and my mind wanders. All my friends are in different classes, and nobody I know is really that competitive or wants to talk about Galactic Astronomy. :stuck_out_tongue: As a result, I’m trying to do study so many things on my own and I get a huge workload when combined with school, and because I am bored with schoolwork I don’t get the grades I want. Given, they’re As, but not the kind of As I’m looking for. It takes the school administration soo long to answer a question, and the schedules are layed out as cleverly as a 4 year old. --
We cover the same thing in Biology we did last year, and last year we covered the same thing as the year before that. It takes weeks to learn the parts of the microscpe, and another week to learn to properly use it. We go over each topic approximately 9 times per class as of my last count. Math is the same; the only class that is really challenging is English, due to the sheer amount of homework and long term assignments. This is not exactly how I foresaw it. =_=
And I’m so hungry!!
End rant. :D

You could always start a conversation thread somewhere on this site. You could attract some intelligent people and have some great conversations with them.

Exeter, Lawrenceville, Hotchkiss, Andover.

Looks good? Should be getting the application materials soon. :)

Mercersburgh?

If you believe that Mercersburg is an improvement over your current school, I think you would be wise to keep it on your list.

Ah, I see. So it shall be. :)

ur taking algebra II and precalc at the same time?? that’s going to be tough, because you need the foundations of algebra to do precalc.

Technically, yes. But I have spent my whole summer studying Algebra II, but our administration doesn’t really care. =_=’
Hence this thread. :)

Chaos, I never thought I would ever contribute to these threads, I always thought I would just lurk.lol I guess sometimes we surprise ourselves.

why did you think that?

I have and still use the internet for news info, my professional interest, school web sites and e-mail. CC is one of a kind for me.

That’s a perfectly reasonable explanation.

I have recieved my Andover and Exeter materials; I am put to awe, as are my parents. I am waiting for Hotchkiss. :)

Which did you like more? I thought that the Exeter one was more forward-thinking and unique. It had funny and interesting facts about the school. The Andover one was great, it just emphasized tradition too much. I don’t care as much about your distinguished lists of alumni as I do about what courses you offer and the atmosphere of the school. They were also fixated on the Andover-Exeter rivalry. Both, however, were superb.
