This was my dream school, where ive wanted to go since freshmen year…and from the look of things it seems like everyone else got accepted. Don’t get me wrong i am extremely happy for all of those that got in, and i congratulate you all!!; but i can’t help but feel sad myself.

You’re deferred. You’re not denied. There’s an enormous difference. Hang in there. And maybe have your GC give a call…

I got deferred too. I’m just as depressed as you are.

congrats to everyone else

Nope hehs…I got deferred too. I know exactly the way you feel…UGH!! We trusted in them enough to do ED; can’t they return the courtesy and have a little trust in us?

Could our Guidance counselor calling really help us out?

Is there anything we can do to get a decision before April 1st??!?!

i wonder if anyone got rejected…that would hurt.

im glad to see that im not the only one atleast, i seriously thought i was…but yes im still majorly depressed and dont know what to do next…and i got a new counselor this year cause my old one, who i had really really good relations with, retired :(…everything jus keeps getting worse…and i doubt anyone was flat out rejected, that would be too mean

i was deferred as well. I am going to take ACT in February in hopes a higher score may help. I was hoping so strongly to have the process over with and be able to relax, but now I gotta fill out more apps. Just wondering what schools were you guys applying to. I got deferred from Olin.

^CAS and Engineering

does anyone know the deferral admit rate? :(

I got defferd, too

CAS as well :(…does anyone know if applying ED will help us out during the RD process?

I just wonder how many of who got deffered can be admitted in RD?

Didn’t someone post couple days ago that 2/3 of deferred end up getting accepted? If so, the odds are with you. Just send a nice email to the admissions office saying that it’s still your number one choice (if it still is) and that you’ll definitely attend if accepted.

For those deferred - did you see the very heartening post by Ollump in “Ed Decisions are Coming Out Today?” Don’t give up! Here’s the quote:

“Good luck everyone waiting for your Wash U decision today. My D was in your exact position one year ago. Wash U was her dream school for 5 years before she applied, she visited twice, submitted an art portfolio, had adequate “stats”, but she still got deferred during the ED round. Why am I posting this now? Because…while she was devastated, she DIDN’T GIVE UP! She raised one of her AP grades, submitted an additional essay and wrote Wash U a followup letter at the end of January to update them as to her work/extracurricular activities and to explain to them how much/why she loved Wash U. Not only did they accept her a week early (before official acceptances went out in March) during RD round, stating that “her application stood out as one of the best they received that year”, they also offered to fly her out to Wash U again at their expense to tour the art school, as she was no longer bound by her ED contract. In retrospect, we think the ED deferral was because of her one weaker fall AP grade, which was because she was crazy busy with a fall varsity sport, applications and putting together an art portfolio. Being deferred ED is VERY DIFFERENT from being waitlisted in the RD round. If you do end up getting deferred as my daughter did, you still have a decent chance of being accepted in the spring, but you are still going to have to work hard at it and let Wash U know how much you want it. I wish you all the best!”

I was deferred as well from Olin. Like a lot of you, I tought I was the only one, but now I feel a little bit more comfortable now that we have a collective group of deferrals. Let’s use this thread to our advantage.

To Rainmaker: I extremely doubt that, but I hope it’s true as well. It just seems like everyone either got deferred or accepted, unless those rejected speak up. Otherwise, I’ just not sure.

To plamlk: That is very inspiring and gives me hope.

To gjdrobs: I applying to a low match of UIUC, and two reaches: Northwestern and Michigan. I’m also appealing the decision by IU Kelley and their honors college. I’ll keep looking at other colleges as well.

Yea I applied to UIUC early and got in, unfortunately not the business school as I had hoped. Also consider Tulane. Free app, simple personal statement (that can be easily copy and pasted off of common app) and most people are hearing back within two weeks. Plan on visiting to see what the south feel is like in the spring especially now since washu isnt a guarantee

“Didn’t someone post couple days ago that 2/3 of deferred end up getting accepted?”

CAN SOMEONE CONFIRM THIS!?!??!

I would love it to be that high, but I am very worried about the members of the stanford brigade that didnt get in spreading there apps all over the place. Has anyone come across anyone that got rejected? I am concerned its becoming either admit or deferral which spells out rejection in April (is it usually April? Seems pretty far off).

Kevzor, I sent you a PM. Someone (“newhere”) on last year’s board made this claim that 2/3 of deferred eventually get accepted. I don’t know how accurate it is, but it did seem like quite a few did get accepted in the spring.

Palmalk, thanks for reposting my comment on this thread where it hopefully can be more helpful. I would like to add one thing though. Anyone deferred is now essentially a “free agent”, no longer bound by the ED contract. If you still feel strongly about Wash U, let them know in your communications to them that you would still accept their offer of admission. They still prefer to bet on a “sure thing” to increase their yield rate.

All right. Thanks for both the wise words and the encouragement. lol

ollump…thanks for the encouaging words…i truly am going to do all i can to get in…i hope it all works out in the end
