I’m back in college now, but will that year off hurt my chances of transferring? BTW I was overseas assisting with the Pakistan earthquake relief efforts in 2005. I wrote a statement explaining my humanitarian work overseas to the college I was applying. Will this work for my benefit?

I can’t imagine it would hurt. I think it will help.

I wish I had taken a year off and helped assisting in earthquake relief. That’s a very honorable and impressive EC that will in no way hurt.

Is there a serious question for us to answer or are you just looking for compliments?

lol ghost.

This is definitely a good EC to have. Just a little comment: try to justify your “leave” off of school for a year with your assistance in earthquake relief–try to incorporate how it changed you as a person as well.

Good luck!

gho5t - Bottom Line, I wrote a personal statement emphasizing how I had improved academically over the years. I even mentioned my rejection from a certain institution. I have not been involved in any EC’s over the years and I did not base my personal statement on my humanitarian work, in fact I made the mistake of inserting one sentence only in my personal statement that indicated my volunteer work. The admissions commitee most likely will overlook that. Now I am contemplating that being brutally honest about my rejection from a certain institution might not work to my benefit, in fact this may hinder my chances of getting in.
