I wish I'd chosen Davis

Hello fellow CC’ers.

I’m a freshman in Boston University. I don’t quite like it here. Boston’s a great city and I love the charm and history of it, but I don’t like the college’s environment. I am part of various clubs and actively involved in them, but still, there’s something that makes me not feel part of my school.

I regret turning down UC Davis without giving any thoughts about attending there. I was too foolish to fall into the “prestige-factor” and choose BU right away. I should’ve not done that.

I have friends who attend Davis and always tell me how great Davis is.

For you all current UC Davis students, feel very thankful.

I wish I could transfer to Davis next year and start a new life. But lower division transfers are the least priority and only accepted into the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. Thus, I can only wish…

Hopeful Aggie.

Interesting that the “prestige factor” led you to select Boston University over the higher ranked UC-Davis.

Best wishes, Kevster. Hopefully, you’ll recieve good news in the spring.

BU is a very urbane college, so it takes a certain type to thrive in that kind of environment.

Um… BU is not at all more prestigious than UC Davis… how on earth did you convince yourself that BU had more prestige?? Did you get confused with Boston COLLEGE??

Prestige as in the name of the school. Anyway, I might just transfer to another school for Fall 2009. Thanks for the wishes, bluebayou.

The name Boston University sounds more prestigious than University of California, Davis?

good luck kevster

good luck kevster, but really, prestige? I mean, maybe on the east coast, but overall I would say that UC Davis is more prestigious than Boston University.

Boston University has the misfortune of being in a city where it is a race for 5th place between BU and Northeastern.

I disagree, in terms of Prestige, BU takes the cake… not many have heard of UCD outside of Cali…

and the only reason BU is ranked so low, is because the alumni giveback is less money than the hobo living outside my apartment building makes in a day and unfortunately that goes into USNWR rankings…

Harvard, MIT, BC, BU, NEU

are all different universities in there own regard, there is no race going for prestige…

yep, i just checked the list of beanpot events, wasn’t on there… sorry…

boston u has been around longer and is in a more popular and historic part of the country, so i think that all attributes to its “prestige” and novelty. howard stern also went there.

and i don’t get why people wouldn’t have heard of ucd before. perhaps they should’ve heard of it. i mean, i know about all of the flagship state uni’s in just about all the other states. perhaps its due to a lack of a strong sports legacy…

I would put Harvard, MIT, Tufts, (Wellesley), BC before Boston U (sixth?) and Northeastern. Don’t forget an up and comer Brandeis U.

UC Davis is only 100 years old-- that’s pretty freaking young. I don’t think you can claim true prestige until you’ve really had a solid run.

Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard, Yale, Jagiellonian…

I am a sophomore at BU and wish I went to Davis too. I didn’t even apply to Cali schools (both my parents went to UCD) I was only focused on going to a college in a real city where there were actual employment opportunities (don’t argue if you go to school at UCD, I’m from NorCal). But honestly, BU will help me get jobs but it’s a tough place to be.

Are you planning on transferring? I’ve looked into it a lot over the last two years, but the advertising program here at BU is way better than transferring into Design at UCD. I’m torn.

Look me up on facebook or something, we can bond over wishing we were at UCD.

-Katie Riley

I wish my D had chosen UCD too… I hope she never see’s this!

WHere did she choose instead?

^Duke. A good choice but sooooo far and sooo expensive!

Duke is certainly more prestigious than Boston U. So it makes sense to pick Duke. However, comparing Davis to Boston U it comes down to your major, your ability afford Boston U (it doesn’t have the greatest financial aid) and your desire to be in Boston (a great city).
