Ice Storm

The sun is out here in Germantown now, and I can hear the kids playing in the surely-more-slush-than-snow. The sidewalk and parking lot have warmed up enough to melt off completely, and I really ought to go out and wipe the snow off the roof of my car and from the windshield so it doesn’t freeze up overnight and require chipping off in the morning.

It looks like life will be back to normal tomorrow.

Good to know. I recall being in one of the few taxis venturing to IAD once between ice storms. The airport was a mess with all the passengers trying to book a flight between storms. Flights were cancelled prior to and after my flight. Thankfully we got of fun eventfully.

Pretty white fluffy stuff today here. My students were mesmerized! :)

Black ice is still a problem though. Last night a seventeen year old boy died after trying to get on an on-ramp just north of Boston. Heartbreaking.

Well…the heavier snow in the forecast didn’t materialize. We got about three inches of white fluffy snow on top of the ice. But wait! The temp was actually above freezing for much of the day, so the ice melted. It is quite pretty, and really is not a huge headache!

Flew to D2’s school to ride back with her to our home. Everything seemed fine, and after a few hours, we changed places and I took over the wheel. Got to a town north of Dallas to find lots of ice on the roads. An SUV changed lanes in front of me suddenly and I tried to break, only to find the Tahoe sliding, completely out of control into the next lane. Thank goodness there was no one in that lane, or I definitely would have slammed into it. The rest of the way home (about an hour), I white knuckled it. Very stressful.

Stay safe, people. Ice is just impossible to drive on. A couple of days ago, we saw a report on the news of a truck being pulled out of an area lake after sliding on a bridge and over the rails. Inside the truck was the driver: a 21 year old nursing student. :(
