My sister sent me this from a site called EurWeb. I don’t know anything about it, whether it’s reliable or not, but from this it seems that Sharpton took a tough stand against Vick’s treatment of dogs.

*On the heels of Nike suspending its release of Michael Vick’s new Air Zoom shoe, rap mogul Russell Simmons and Rev. Al Sharpton have teamed with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) to complain to Vick’s sponsors.
As previously reported, Vick was indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of procuring and training pit bulls for fighting and conducting the enterprise across state lines. He is due before a judge this week. Vick has said he was unaware that his relatives, who lived on the Virginia property under investigation, were involved in illegal dog fighting. Still, Rev. Sharpton, Simmons and PETA President Ingrid E. Newkirk wrote a letter to Vick’s sponsors condemning his alleged role in the practice.

“And yes, I know that other cultures value different animals differently, and some eat dogs. But we don’t do that, so it disturbs people”

We are a multicultural country teriwt. You don’t get to tell people what part of their culture they are allowed to keep and which part they can’t anymore than they can tell you that you cannot dismember a fetus if it will improve your emotional stability.

We have bum fight and jacjass videos, kiddie porn and live S&M performances but two dogs fighting signals the collapse of civilization? I have news for everybody it is legal, popular, and common in many parts of the world including Japan, Latin America, and many parts of the Mid East.

We spend more time and effort going after these dog fighters than we do child abusers and have more laws on the books protecting Rover than we do kids.

“Please, if you want to talk about abortion, can you kindly go start a separate thread somewhere else?”

I thought we were talking about the barbarity of animals ripping other animals limb from limb?

I only brought it up because the abhorrence of dog fighting is a peculiarly American middle class value not shared by the rest of the world and not based on an objection to the violence but to the target of the violence.

So, does that make the theory that the longer an internet conversation goes on, the increased likelihood that it will talk about abortion (rather than Hitler) a Conyatism??? (NOTE- this is NOT an invitation to talk about the “A” word. No no. Bad bad.)

Yeah and he is being railroaded and punished in the extreme for something that ought at worst be a fine and a slap on the wrist. He is losing his livlihood and tens of millions of dollars and going to jail. That is not fair or just. What it is in fact is cultural persecution.

Did I go over your head? I was facetiously comparing the dismemberment of a partially born child by an abortionist to a dog tearing another dog limb from limb. But now that you mention it partial birth abortion probably ought to warrant a fine and a slap on the wrist as well.

So then let me just get the rules right here. This thread is strictly about getting a rope and lynching Michael Vick? Basically what we would do if we caught him out back of the woodpile with Massa’s daughter right?

Yeah OK then I think I can get in the swing of things. Vick is a subhuman oaf and should be fed to the hogs. Is the the proper spirit? I love piling on. It is way better than actually thinking about what you are doing, and there is a positive rush to being part of a mob.

Interesting discussion o the news last night between the acting director of the NAACP and the head of PETA. If I recall correctly, the acting director of the NAACP did not feel that dogfighting was more common in the black community. Perhaps it was a regional issue in his view. The head of PETA came across rather … prissy is the word that comes to mind. It will be interesting to see what happens in VA at 10 am, when Vick goes to court.

I was going to comment on just who fits the bill of being

“This thread is strictly about getting a rope and lynching Michael Vick? Basically what we would do if we caught him out back of the woodpile with Massa’s daughter right?”

What a copout higherlead (yes reviving some '60s lingo…lol). This isn’t about race, this is about actions. Dogfighting, for some reason, does seem to be a more Southern thing… and honestly, if you watch any of the ‘animal police’ shows, it seems most of those arrested and hauled off to jail for dogfighting or animal abuse are white. I find it laughable anyone would think Vick was being railroaded because of his race. Frankly, because of his celebrity, I doubt he will get any prison time…but just like Don Imus, he is going to pay the price for his stupid actions in $.

Good. I’m glad. Some people need to grow a brain.

He will get ClubFed the question is how long and where? I cannot imagine he will avoid jail time. His plea gives him no room to negotiate for less than 12 months. DEC 10th is the day of finding out the penalty.

higherlead - you scare the #@$% out of me. Perhaps Vick can get a job as Cheney’s hunting partner. When he misses and shoots another bystander. Vick can simply strangle the deer. My favorite part of this whole sorry affair was when the head of the Atlanta NAACP stated that he still believes Vick is innocent even after he had agreed to plead guilty. There are some things even race does not excuse!!!

Okay…maybe I should put it this way. I don’t think he will get ‘real’ or ‘hard’ time. He’ll likely get the Paris Hilton treatment at a federal facility where everyone will treat him like a god. His pain will be monetary. Again. GOOD.
