Yes, but here’s the good news: college admissions isn’t going to focus (negatively) on a single D in 9th grade if there’s subsequent signs of improvement. Like, if all your grades in math after this are some flavor of A, it’s a real non-issue. And even if you have some Bs in math thrown in, the lone D in 9th grade, in and of itself, is not going to be a deciding issue.
The only thing that will have them scratching their heads in a D in math coupled with doing well with anything related to USAJMO’s. The word “incongruous” comes to mind.
You’ve placed into calculus for next year. Focus on making sure that you have mastered the material covered in geometry, so that you will have a firm foundation going forward.
