If Money Wasn't an Issue: YOUR Trip(s) of a Lifetime

I received this list from a travel company. What trips would be on your list, if money wasn’t an issue? Love thinking about dream trips this time of year!

Dive at the Great Barrier Reef, Australia
Journey to the edge of Niagra Falls, Ontario, Canada
Trek the Inca Trail to Machu Pichu, Peru
Soar in a balloon above unique landscape, Cappadocia,Turkey
Visit gorillas in their natural habitat, Rawanda
See an awe-inspiring sunset, Santorini, Greece
Explore the ancient Pyramids, Egypt
Walk the Great Wall of China, Bejing
Marvel at the wonder of the Taj Mahal, India
Tour the canals in a gondola, Venice, Italy
See the Northern Lights, Iceland
Sleep in an over-water bungalow, Bora Bora

I’ve been told the Great Wall is a disappointment. Surprised there isn’t an African safari on their list.

I’ve heard the Great Barrier Reef is a disappointment to experienced divers.

Dive live aboard throughout Micronesia.
Inland passage of Alaska on a small ship with a private balcony.

Ps - Rawanda is in Africa.

Oh, a few months/year comparing the south pacific islands would be nice. Tahiti, Fiji, Cook, etc.

Then one might have to compare them to the various Caribbean islands…

One destination? I’d pick Bora Bora. ;)

Can’t say that the political climate in Rwanda inspires me to travel there, but D does have a former roommate who is finishing up her stay with the Peace Corps there.

Im currently infatuated with Japan, which is about the most exotic place that H is interested in.

On my bucket list:

Barcelona for the architecture, culture and history
Seeing the complete Wagner “Ring” cycle (New York, LA or Bayrueth)

I’d pick Bora Bora from that list, too. First choice would really be Egypt, but not sure I would want to travel there right now…

Trip to Niagara Falls seems sort of out of its league on that list.

Food tour of Italy.
Machu Pichu.
Tiwanaku.
Actually, pretty much any ruin site of South/Latin America.
I’d love to go to Egypt but like int, I don’t really want to travel there right now even if I could afford to go.

I love seeing our National Parks and am surprised Yellowstonw isn’t in there. We loved our week there. Grand Canyon is also amazing, including white water rafting down the Colorado river.

Have heard Galapagos is gorgeous and wonderful to visit. We may go there in the spring.

I like long trips, with time for exploring rather than rushed whirlwinds to check something off an arbitrary bucket list or similar.

I would drive for a month across England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
I would spend another month in Hawaii, another month in Tahiti, and then top it off with a month renting a house in Tuscany.

I always wanted to see the Northern Lights. I also always wanted to go someplace where the sky was so clear you could see millions of stars.

Of the list, I’d pick Egypt, Turkey, Greece and/or Bora Bora. But I also want to go to Antartica and New Zealand (south island but I’d take the north island as well).

I’ve been to the Great Wall several times over the years. Sadly, it’s grown more and more commercialized. The last time, in 2007, I went with D and we went on the unrestored portion of the wall. That was a bit scary (unrestored means dangerous because there are no barriers, handrails, etc). It was the one time I was grateful for souvenir hawkers - they took us on an alternate route through a village (cluster of houses) to our end point.

Iceland is surprisingly (or maybe not, if you know its economy) affordable and easy to tour. We went last spring break and the entire family wants to return again.

I’d choose the Italian Riveriera: Portofino & Greece and Barcelona & Lisbon. Maybe Monte Carlo in Monaco too.

Of the places I’ve already been to, I’d go back to Israel and Hawaii.

^^Actually, I liked Curacao and Aruba enough to go back a second time there too.

I’ve already been to a lot of those places including the Great Barrier Reef - it was ok. The Great Wall was great. I did the bungalow thing in Moorea which is near Bora Bora. There is a relatively cheap deal to Iceland until March so the Northern Lights should be inexpensive. The two items in my bucket list that I’ll probably have some difficulty getting to are: Antarctica (the only continent that I haven’t been to) and going into space.

St. Petersburg, to see the Hermitage.

You can see millions of stars when you stay in the lodging in many of our National Parks. Sometimes you can see the Northern Lights from Minnesota or Alaska, but it varies. Would love to see them too!

I probably can’t go to China unless there is dramatic improvement in air quality. I’d like to see ore of Europe and Canada and Japan and Taiwan. Also need to revisit the neighbor islands.

Don’t know why I forgot Hawaii. A friend went there last week and I drooled over the pictures she posted on FB. She stayed on the big island.

Some cool places I would recommend:
We did western national parks 5 years a go starting in Yellowstone and ending at the Grand Canyon. Two weeks and 2150 miles without much arguing.

New Zealand’s north island is cool. It’s where the filmed lord of. The rings and the area around Rotorua is their equivalent of Yellowstone w geysers and mud pots.

Barcelona. Yes!

Tasmania. Excellent food and wine, plus beautiful countryside.

Vietnam. Friendly people, cheap (but good) food. Lots of temples and shrines to see.

I had a great job and went to the last four on my former employers account.

Antarctica and a month traveling on the Trans Siberian express. Right now, not enough time or money.

I want to go back to Switzerland. So gorgeous!
