If you are from Joisey

Here is a link to my favorite guilty pleasure.

http://musicradio.computer.net/</a></p>

It has tons of WABC sound checks and parts of radio shows from AM radio during it’s heyday. As far as I am concerned, Dan Ingram was the man. Scroll down the main page toward the bottom to get to the meat of the site. You will need to download Realaudio if you don’t have it.

WABC may have been a New York station but it was a Jersey staple. Dan Ingram saying “Roll your bod” during the summer months was all about the Jersey shore, my friends.

OMG, “Roll your bod” takes me right back to Seaside in the summer. Thanks for the memory.

I am another Jersey native! I am from Bergen County. I loved Two Guys and Alexanders department stores. “Palisades Amusement Park, swings all day and after dark!” Jan’s Ice Cream…remember the kitchen sink? Used to love Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes. Spent summers at the shore. Fun memories.

Soozievt,

brings back memories…

I was in that throng too when the Flyers won it all in '74 (and again in '75.) Practically my whole high school cut classes that day and we all had to come in for a special Saturday detention. We squeezed eight into a compact car and found a parking spot by picking up and moving over a VW bug that was taking two spaces.

By the way, it was JFK stadium in those days, although the Army-Navy game was held there. My gym teacher used to get us all jobs waving flashlights in the parking lots for the big events there.

This thread brings back a lot of great memories! We lived in Monmouth County for 4 years and absolutely loved it! We lived in a little town called Fair Haven. What a great place to live! What I miss about living in New Jersey is having your own community school district - you knew the teachers and the principals, buying your Christmas Tree at the firehouse, the Fair Haven Fireman’s Fair with carnival rides and seafood. I also miss going to Monmouth Park, the great horse racing facility. I miss going to the hardware store right in “downtown” Fair Haven and to the post office and other locations there where you knew your neighbors and they knew you. I miss taking my kid to Jenkinsons. New Jersey definitely gets a bad rap. I found it a fantastic place to live.

Gnu–I grew up across the river in Middletown–I adore Fair Haven, though I could never afford to move back there.

Garland,

Real estate is insane there! We had a very modest home that sold for 220K 9 years ago when we moved to the Washington, DC area. Recently, our house in Fair Haven was resold for $640K. Its an older 1100 sq ft 3 bedroom ranch with a 1 car garage! 2 blocks from the main intersection in downtown Fair Haven and the backyard connects to a park. Great location, but, WOW, what a price!

My parents home (my childhood home) on 1/3 acre of land in Englewood Cliffs (Bergen County) was purchased new for 28,000$ in 1960. My mother sold it in 1996 for $600,000. Today it is worth about $250,000 more! It is a ten minute drive to NYC and so, prime real estate. Go figure.

as suggested on the Clarence Clemons thread, I found this thread and am bumping it. Agree nearly 100% with most posts, having moved to Jersey in 1985 in my early 20s.

Jersey girls still don’t pump gas!

PS - only point I would disagree with is that Jersey did not create traffic circles in the US, that honor belongs to DC, where I grew up. My drivers ed instructor considered Chevy Chase circle the ultimate test.

^^^Actually you may want to “yield” to Washington Circle, most obvious example of DC me-firstism…

Nostalgia time for anyone who group up in NJ–even if you never went to Palisades Amusement Park, I bet you know every word of this song:

[YouTube - ‪Palisades Amusement Park Radio Commercial‬‏](<a href=“Palisades Amusement Park Radio Commercial - YouTube”>Palisades Amusement Park Radio Commercial - YouTube)

Audiophile said: “Tastycakes, Soft Pretzels & Hoagies.”

and I immediately flashed back to serious serious high school conversations about

what KIND of Tastycakes? (Mine was Butterscotch Krimpets)
with or without mustard? (without, extra salt)
oil? (no!)

We lived in NJ for 10 years. Many people don’t understand how beautiful it is.

When D was 3, she was playing with a Beauty and the Beast mirror. She held it up, and said (merging two Disney stories): “Mirror, mirror from the mall, who’s the fairest of them all?”

Because that’s where stuff comes from – the mall

I liked the chocolate Krimpets and Tandy Takes. A place in Burien often has some in stock. I like my soft pretzels with mustard and salt and my hoagies with hot peppers and V&O. I am from the beauty spot of NJ–Hunterdon County–home of the old famous Red Mill.

http://www.njskylands.com/tnclinton.htm</a></p>

Just read through the old posts. Every few months someone sends me the "you know you are from Jersey…"No matter how many times I read it, it still brings back memories!

I’m a Butterscotch Krimpets fan. I had no idea that you could only get Tastycakes around here!

I grew up just north of Asbury Park. We went to the beach, we did not go “down the Shore” because we were AT the Shore.

We considered ourselves to be living in Central Jersey, not North or South. North was where the (male) daytrippers who wore black business socks with their sneakers to go to the beach came from. South Jersey was where the clamdiggers and pineys lived (sorry folks!).

The world dropped off somewhere around Freehold. Everything had a north-south orientation.

We ate subs, not hoagies, but did have Tastykakes. Our TV shows and radio stations were all out of NY though. I do know every word of that Palisades Amusement Park song & I do not have to click on the link!

we had Tastycakes in DC when I was growing up. It’s a midAtlantic thing. Tasty Baking was based in Philly area.

North jersey represented!!!..we always considered south jersey started at the Bergen County line…lol… And there was no central jersey, just north and south…we went ‘down the shore’. Did not wear black socks ever…

Who remembers the Garden State plaza when it was Open Air,not enclosed…anchored by Bambergers and Gimbels…loved Jahns and the kitchen sink!!!.. nightclubs were great in the late 70’s early 80’s… Soap Factory,Mothers,Butterfields,Rams Horn,Orbit Inn…wow, memory lane, lol

Re: Palisades Amusement Park

My parents were both smokers, and I remember that there was something printed on the bottom of some matchbooks, behind the matches, which got you into the park for free. I would bend back the matches to search for them and my parents would get so mad…This would be in the 1950s!

Wow, the memories keep coming!

Does anyone remember when Alexanders first opened, and the uproar about the modern art mural that they hung on the front of it!

And Best and Company? I remember getting my hair curled there when I was in elementary school.
