<p>If you are tired of obsessing about the quality of your kids’ common app essays, take a break and read “Ignorance is Blitz” by Anders Henrikkson. These are purportedly real essays written by college students. I have been laughing out loud with my HS and college kids over gems such as:</p>
<p>“[Roman] Senators wore purple tubas as a sign of respect”</p>
<p>“The Ancient Greeks founded the Olympics in about 1896”</p>
<p>“The Mongrels advanced into Egypt and Syria in 1260.”</p>
<p>“Moses was told by Jesus Christ to lead the people out of Egypt into the Sahaira Desert. The Book of Exodus describes this trip and the amazing things that happened on it, including the 10 Commandments, various special effects, and the building of the Suez Canal.”</p>
<p>“The history of the Jewish people begins with Abraham, Isaac and their twelve children. Judyism was the first monolithic religion. It had one big God named ‘Yahoo’.”</p>
