**is it worth staying in the dorms for the exeperience… in a few words describe what its like and did you get paired up randomly or did you already kno the person?

(if u dormed obviously lol) **

I personally thing everyone should experience dorm life at least once. Even if you don’t like it you can experience living with someone else in close quarters and develop life skills.
I did get paired up randomly… with a party animal lol and I’m the hermit crab study geek.
Dorm life is what you make of it. It generally doesn’t go into the grey area for me, you’ll either enjoy it or become a misanthrope by the end of the year. One thing to realise from what I see is you are going to be strange to your roommate no matter what. UCF does tell you who you room with before though so feel free to contact them.

I just wanted to thank you for this thread. I’m going to attend UCF for the Summer 2010 term in two months and I’m really excited. All your replies have helped a lot.

I was wondering…
a) How is UCF tutoring? At ucf.edu they have plenty of times for tutoring, but I was wondering if you ever went (or know anyone who has) and how the tutoring was.

b) Do you know anyone who is double majoring? I plan to double major in Comp. Sci and Psychology, but I’m afraid it could be too much work to handle. Thankfully, most of the math and prereq’s for Comp Sci are more difficult than the ones required for Psych, so I should be able to waive them. Anyways, what are your opinions on double majoring at UCF?

a) I’ve never really needed tutoring and if I did I’d usually go to youtube or physicsforums for any information I need. I’ve seen SARC (the tutoring people) before and they seemed to be helping but I’ve never really experienced it first hand. Another time in Physics though I overheard some people saying they kinda just give you the answer though.
b) I sadly haven’t really met a double major yet. Since you’re taking higher math classes I am pretty sure you can waive them in your quest to a double major. I don’t know what you mean at UCF though. I’d say to study what you want(?). At most if you want to graduate in 4 years you’ll need to take summer classes for a double major.

ok so idk if this has been asked but starting over the summer and my mom may not let me bring my car:( so i was wondering if you think i would need a car freshman year and if so, some arguments so i can convinve her to let me bring it.

You can get by without a car I guess.
Well you can tell your mom that you are moving out and becoming independent and part of that process is access to a car so you do not have to depend on others to get you around when you need to leave campus. Have you asked why specifally she said no to bringing a car?

What are the pros and cons of the campus? I’ve heard that everyone loves it but some have said that it has a bad vibe.

It’s easy to get around. It’s spacious and the trees around Ferrel Commons are very nice in sunny weather. Everything is well kept and modern and it’s enjoyable.
I don’t understand this bad vibe thing you are talking about. At night it gets dark(?) but I’ve never had any safety issues.

Have you been in/lived in a Lake Claire apartment? What is it like? I got assigned there. One of my friends said her cousin said it’s like a prison or something. Probably because of the cinderbloc walls. But I don’t think I’ll mind that.

I am a Junior in Highschool. My unweighted gpa is 3.8 and weighted is 4.2. I dont know what it is but when it comes to major tests i do average at best. My sat scores are
reading-450
math- 530
writing-470

UCF is really the only school i want to go to. I am planing on taking the act’s to but do you think this is enough or what else should i do.

My DS got assigned to LC too. He is in a #4 room which is the smallest. LC was his first choice so he is happy. At least he has a window. What did you get: a 1,2,3 or 4 room?

Not really. They seem nice from the outside but I think the worst thing about it is the location unless you’re like an english major.

I want to say you will be fine because of your high school gpa. Try to get your scores up though if you can to be extra safe/snag a scholarship. I think you just make the 75% Bright Futures requirement. You can take the ACT if you want. A lot of people feel it’s easier (I did worse on them, haha) but do what you feel is right. I’m sure studying for either test will get you that push into ucf

Does anyone know how UCF handles the excess money in a student’s account? What I mean is, if my total cost of “necessities (tuition, dorm, etc)” for a semester/year is $5 and I have $8 in financial aid (from UCF and other scholarships). What happens to that remaining $3? Can I pocket it immediately or must I wait until I graduate to do so?

i have orientation on monday and i reserved a dorm for me to stay in… now am i supposed to sleep over sunday night AND monday night or only monday night ?

im a little confused and cant call them cuz there closed weekends

Bonafide, you need to sign up for direct deposit and when there is a balance they deposit the remainder in your account every semester. Collegebound, you stay Sunday and Monday night in the dorms.

@Hondu: I got room 3. So does only room 4 have a window? I’m pretty excited to live there, it was my first choice cause Towers are pretty expensive and since I live an hour away I wouldn’t need to have it during summer too.

You can sign up for direct deposit or you can wait a bit and UCF sends it in the mail.

Probably Monday night. But I think I am a little late for this one :(

Sorry all, my ISP randomly turned off my internet and I just got it back on today.

I’m an out of state student so I’m going to orientation in august. It turns out those two days of orientation are during the week of rush. Will i still be able to join a sorority or will i get in trouble for skipping the first day of orientation?

Are any of the sports teams good?

Are you supposed to have a list of classes you want to take before you get to orientation? I’m majoring in chemistry…

How far away is the beach? =]
