I'm confused - am I in?

I got an e-mail, and it sounded a lot like an acceptance:

“Dear xxxxxxx,
Congratulations on your acceptance to McGill’s Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences! McGill is ranked Canada’s top university*. The decision to come to the Macdonald Campus is an important investment in your future. We have one of the best professor-to-student ratios in Canada and the highest in any undergraduate program at McGill. This means you will receive individual attention and have better access to our teaching staff and facilities throughout your program. At Macdonald, students are known by name. No matter what program you choose, our facilities provide you with valuable hands-on experience. Our academic programs allow you to gain practical experience through work placements and internships, field courses, and field semesters in Africa, Barbados and Panama.”

This was just the first paragraph - it goes on to talk more about the school, and e-mail the dean if I have any questions, etc.

But then at the bottom of the e-mail, it said this in small red italics:

“Please note that any reference to admissions in this communication should not be considered as an official acceptance to the University. The official admission decision is conveyed in McGill’s formal letter of acceptance.”

So… I found it weird…

the offical letter would be the hardcopy snail-mail delivered letter!..

Um…look online on their site where you log in. It should say it there…

you’re in.

yay, thanks! and i checked minerva (after searching desperately for my password) and it was confirmed. i’m so excited! i’m into faculty of env. sci and agriculture but still waiting on arts… i applied to both. i’m happy, though, because i didn’t take any of the suggested sat II subj. tests like bio or chem and i haven’t taken physics. (i applied because i’m really into environmental policy.)

hello!
i have also applied to the faculty of Arts, undeclared (and my status is reviewed-decision pending :$) and to Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (accepted pending final results)
i would prefer to majoring in economics and combine it with environmental science/policies etc

i have been accepted to UBC (faculty of arts). which one should i choose?
i have never been to canada (i am from europe, greece) and i have no idea what to do. i can not accept both of them and decide later, eh? (assuming that i will be accepted to mcgill’s faculty of arts).
any advice? :)

Haha. Well, if you know French better than English overall then I guess i’d choose McGill. But Vancouver does have better weather year-round  I guess look at pictures if there’s no way you can choose…The schools are very different.
Good job though!

Sophman:
I’m from Vancouver, and honestly, I would choose McGill. The weather is nicer here, but in my opinion McGill offers a more quality education. My mum went to UBC as an undergrad, and both my parents were profs there, and they both agree that the school cares very little about the students. Furthermore, though the city of Vancouver is wonderful, UBC is in its own enclave away from the rest of the city. As a Canadian who has visited both cities and both campuses, Montreal is far more interesting (and less expensive) then Vancouver.

I’ll second that. Especially from Europe, Montreal is a MUCH more European city than Vancouver. Granted, Montreal is still very north american culturewise, but nonetheless does have it’s international influences as well. Not to say that UBC is a bad school (I wanted to go there) but McGill is much more well known internationally.
