I'm getting my wisdom teeth pulled in less than 2 hours

Wish me luck :(

Don’t be a hero. Take the prescribed pain meds. You will do fine!

Blood tastes yucky. Sympathies.

Ha being a hero is last on my agenda! And thanks HSLmod that makes me feel a lot better :)

When I had my wisdom teeth pulled out, it was all four at the same time.

Worse than the pain is, I thought, the downright disgusting taste you get in your mouth after not being able to brush properly for several days and from eating only soup and chowders. You can practically taste the bacteria breeding in your mouth.

I was supposed to have my wisdoms pulled today, as well as my tongue untied. I have laryngitis. It sucks because I had to take off work all weekend…

Have fun looking like a chipmunk with acorns in its mouth.

Good luck  I had all of mine removed during summer 2008, and I had an awesome doctor, no real pain. I then developed a sinus infection, which slowed down recovery time a bit (otherwise would have been fine after 1 day). Yes, my face did swell a bit, but was totally back to normal after like 4 days. Lol it took 10 minutes for them to put me out, even increasing the amount of anesthesia coming through in the IV, then I woke up in the middle of doing stitches and the nurses freaked haha. Good times, they were frightened when I could walk under my own power, and rushed to my side because they thought that I was going to crumble to the floor (standard procedure). I even had to remind my parents of some of the doctor’s instructions following the surgery, so I didn’t really get affected.

First thought, “2 hours? How long does it normally take? 0.o”

Haven’t had a problem with my wisdom teeth yet.

^My operation only took 45 minutes total, not counting the 15 or so minutes in the waiting room. So, it’s a pretty short procedure

If they give you Percocet or Vicodin, send them to me. ;)

^They gave me oxycodone. Best pain relievers ever <3.

It’s not too bad. Getting put under is really fun. You get so happy. Just remember that the bleeding will eventually stop, even if it seems like it won’t.

I had to get local anesthesia (shots of novacaine, I guess) for my wisdoms. To be frank, it really sucked. I think the doctor forget one side of my mouth because I was in pain throughout the procedure. I heard from others that IV anesthesia feels like going asleep and then waking up without feeling any time passed (kinda wished I had that…)

I’m back, that sucked.

I just went through what cosine45 said. I only had novacaine injected into the four areas and I had to be conscious for everything. My teeth being sawed, him cracking my impacted ones, feeling the pressure he put to rip them out, and having to see blood be sucked out with a tube sticking out of my mom. Horrible.

He prescribed me vicodin but my mom didn’t even get it and said I don’t need it and got ibuprofen instead… I hope I don’t wake up in torturing pain tomorrow morning because it’s not that bad right now since I still have the numbness of the novacaine.

When my wisdom teeth get pulled they’ll do a bone graft at the same time in the front of my mouth in preparation for a tooth implant.

Keep ice packs on for the next 12 hours or as directed. They will keep you from getting chipmunk cheeks.

I would suggest that you solely take vicodin if you feel like you need it. You won’t be enabled to eat too much, and taking vicodin on top of that isn’t ideal. It was prescribed to me too, but I just took motrin. The first two days aren’t too appeasing, but you should be fine after the second day.

That’s unfortunate that you were awake through the procedure. Why didn’t you take anesthetics?

My aunt’s a doctor and she said that you shouldn’t go under during oral surgery because the person doing it is probably inexperienced and of dubious competence.

She’s a pretty important person though, so her standards might be unreasonably high.

Yeah I am applying ice constantly to minimize the swelling.

I only had the local anesthesia, my mom didn’t want them to put me to sleep because she considered this a minor procedure and thought it didn’t require it. Let me just say, I am definitely not having my child go through this…

Wow, that’s unfortunate:/

How is extracting an impacted bone from your mouth considered a minor procedure?
