I’m been stuck in the South forever. Throughout my entire life, I’ve tried to escape. I’ve had many inexpensive opportunities to travel such as school trips and exchange programs, but my parents demolished them. I got into colleges all across the country, but my parents have dictated that I must attend Vanderbilt, a fine, but definitely southern school in a country music (bleh!) pervaded city. I feel as if I’m never going to get out.

I figure that I will work during the year and during the summer to save up for a summer abroad. They can’t say no if I’m paying for it!

Have any of you experienced such opposition to your wanderlust? It seems on this board that everyone is studying abroad in China their junior year and going to Spain or Italy during the summer.
