I'm Leaving Home - a music compilation

So there’s a thread for parent-to-kid music CD…what about a kid-to-parent CD? My older sister caused hell whenever she was home and generally hated being around the family on top of going to school in GA (we’re in VA), so my mom was so excited when I stayed instate and haven’t been a royal pain in the buttocks whenever I’m home (obviously I’ve changed my ways a bit, but atleast I’ve told my mom to expect things to be different on my end just as I expect it on their end…it’s been a peaceful relationship, so far…but she does know I really want to get back to school, which she likes because sister hated the school aspect of college)
Anyways, we’ve grown really close over the last two summers, and since I was at VT for 4/16, she’s grown attached in a way. So, for her upcoming birthday (which happens to be my move-in day), I’ve decided to give her a webcam (woo! mommy! now i’ll never leave school hahaha) and the whole CD thing gave me an idea to burn her some MP3 cds for work (unless dad blows it and buys her an iPod…then again, she still has her car which can play MP3), but also a couple to remind her of me when she gets lonely (younger brother drives her up the wall…too much testosterone).

Any suggestions? She loves class rock type stuff (eagles, stones, fleetwood mac, who, beatles, etc etc etc…mainly late 60s/70s) and can do some modern stuff (obviously not heavy rock).

DAVID BOWIE…CHANGES

Wide Open Spaces - Dixie Chix

AMANDA MARSHALL
Sunday Morning After

I woke up with a killer hangover
Hope it was worth all this pain
(I’d do it all over again)
By the time the party was over
Tequila was my claim to fame
(I couldn’t remember my name)

I was dancing with Jake when I last saw my keys
That was my first mistake
‘Cause, what happened to me?
I look down at my arm, baby
And something’s lookin’ back at me
And I cannot believe it

CHORUS:
Oh my God!-- I woke up with a snake tattoo
Oh my God!-- and I think that my tongue’s pierced, too
Oh my God!-- Oh my God!
It’s the Sunday morning after
And baby, who the hell are you?

etc.

Fleetwood Mac - Landslide
Carole King - So Far Away

This is a country one, but it’s sure to make her cry if she’s at all sentimental. :-)

“Somebody’s Hero” by Jamie O’Neal

She’s never pulled anyone from a burning building
She’s never rocked Central Park to a half a million fans, screaming out her name
She’s never hit a shot to win the game
She’s never left her footprints on the moon
She’s never made a solo hot air balloon ride, around the world,
No, she’s just your everyday average girl (but)

She’s somebody’s hero
A hero to her baby with a skinned up knee
A little kiss is all she needs
The keeper of the cheerios
The voice that brings Snow White to life
Bedtime stories every night
And that smile lets her know
She’s somebody’s hero

She didn’t get a check every week like a nine-to fiver
But she’s been a waiter, and a cook and a taxi driver
For twenty years, there at home, until the day her girl was grown
Giving all her love to her was her life’s ambition
But now her baby’s movin’ on, and she’ll soon be missin’ her
But not today, those are tears of joy runnin’ down her face

She’s somebody’s hero
A hero to her daughter in her wedding dress
She gave her wings to leave the nest
It hurts to let her baby go down the aisle she walks right by
Looks back into her mother’s eyes
And that smile lets her know
She’s somebody’s hero

Thirty years have flown right past
Her daughters’ starin’ at all the photographs
Of her mother, and she wishes she could be like that
Oh, but she already is

She’s somebody’s hero
A hero to her mother in a rockin’ chair
She runs a brush through her silver hair
The envy of the nursing home
She drops by every afternoon
Feeds her mama with a spoon
And that smile lets her know
Her mother’s smile lets her know
She’s somebody’s hero
