i'm new at this

I’m going to be a senior, and lol I don’t know when to apply to all the UC’s. What’s the deadline?

Why would you want to apply to all of them? Apply to only one like I did o_O

You can apply electronically beginning Nov 1. Nov. 30 is the last day.

if you have to pay 60 dollars for each school you apply…then choose what UCs you feel most interested in. you wouldn’t want to pay $540 and you strongly believe that you wont attend there

if I take sat 2’s on november, would it to be too late for me to submit?

anybody know how ELCS works if you are admitted into the program? how do they choose the UCs you get automatic admission to and when do you learn them?

whats ELCS?

Ah, that should read ELC, sorry about that. It’s the program where if you’re the top 4% of your graduating class, they pick two UCs (excluding LA and Berkeley) for you to gain guaranteed admission if you apply.

Ah, disregard my posts, I’m reading about ELC right now on their website.

ELC guarantees admission to all the schools except UCLA, UCB, and UCSD. In these schools, UCSD has a 90% admission of ELC since it gives 300pts to ELC students based on their point system. UCB and UCLA have no significant preference for ELC, since they accept about 40% of ELC students. ELC will, however, qualify most students to get scholarships from UCs that are non-financial aid.

And @Peteyflow, November SAT is fine, but you should check mark during the test to send the scores directly to the UCs because waiting for the scores and then sending them might be a bit late. Also, send the application in earlier than the last day since the server is known to crash.

You can take them as late as December, just make sure you note on your application that you will be taking the exam.

I heard you can fill out one application and this can apply to all the UC’s. Is there?

Yeah, the application is just one app that you fill out, and you pick which schools you want to send to @ $60 per school

Or a fee waiver lets you apply to four UCs for free.

I don’t think ELC gurantees admission to all except Cal UCLA and UCSD as someone posted above… because this year only merced and Irvine sent out the ELC admission letter(like before they announce decisions for everyone), its not that UCLA and Cal is excluded from the two UCs, its just that they chose not to be the ELC school which usually is used to attract people to their school and UCLA and Cal don’t really need to attract more since they get plenty of applications(on an interesting note, UCR is still trying to attract me to go there as they sent me an email extending the SIR deadline to august lol)
ELC should send you a letter around october which contains your login and password to the UC application site so you odn’t have to register and once you log in with your login you start your application with ELC included…

Basically, ELC isn’t that big of a deal…

I agree. The only thing ELC specifies is that you get guaranteed admission to a UC. So, you could get ELC guaranteed admission offers from multiple UCs, but it doesn’t guarantee admission to ALL the second-tier or third-tier UCs.

well it is a nice backup and I think it helps your app when they see the ELC applications even at campuses like Cal and UCLA

ELC is nice. It guaranteed admission for me at UCI and UCSB, the former of which admitted me as a Regent’s scholar.

So it’s not so bad.

Well the main point is that if you were capable of getting ELC, then likely your academic record was good enough anyways. I forgot, but didn’t they ask for rank on the application (at least the one from a couple years back)?

In theroy, ELC is suppose to give leverage to students from schools underperforming / lacked AP’s and what not. But doesn’t admission consider that kind of information anyways?

My two cents:

I just liked knowing I was in already. It’s that sense of security so you don’t have to think, what if Back-Up School doesn’t admit me because they can tell I’m using them as a back-up?
