And what an adventure it is. I was so insecure! I just want to go back in time, hug my younger self, and assure her that she’s much more competent, attractive and popular than she ever thought she was.

Anyone else ever do this??

(I’ve also discovered, through googling, that two former boyfriends whom I was seeing during that time have passed away.)

I am glad I did not keep a diary. It gives me deniability that I ever was that uncool! I warn the kids nowadays not to leave so much digital fingerprint with FB, twitter and so on. Someday they will wince at all they posted. I read an article of a writer/blogger who read his FB timeline over the past 9 years and he wrote that he would unfriend himself if he could!

I don’t have a journal, but my mother saved all the letters I wrote home in college and grad school (they’re now in my possession). We also have all the letters DH and I wrote to each other while we were in grad/professional school (we weren’t married yet). I haven’t read them in ages, but it would be interesting to see what was important to us back then and how we handled things.

I only wish I could! My mother destroyed any journals, letters, etc she could get her hands on. She denies it but I know she did - in her view she was trying to “protect” me from unflattering things I had written down about other people.
