IMO and IMO?

I wanted to as that what’s the difference between the IMO conducted by SOF and THE IMO? I mean they are different right? And what all preliminary Olympiads do I have to win in to go to THE IMO?

Google man Google

The exam formats are different, for one thing. As is the level, reputation, the process of selection. And about 15 other things.

SOF is presumably a non-for-profit (does not mean charitable) private (i.e., non governmental) institution based out of New Delhi.

The International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) is an annual six-problem, 42-point mathematical olympiad for pre-collegiate students and is the oldest of the International Science Olympiads.[wikipedia]. It’s run sort of like the Olympics, plus/minus delta by the International Mathematics Olympiad. To compete, you need pre-RMO, RMO, INMO …

As BCh… says, search engines can you give a lot of info on the differences.

Sof IMO- Irrelevent stupid fake olympiad to make money not really recognised by most US universities.

The real IMO- Extremely tough to win a medal, if you do, you will probably get in every university you want.

SOF IMO is sort of a practice for THE IMO… LOL!!
So what I mean is, first try to get through SOF IMO and then work for THE IMO. :-)

SOF IMO will not help you for the real IMO at all in my opinion.

SOF IMO, is just great for the strengthning of basic concepts for THE IMO. That is what I personally feel. Opinions differ. :-)

SOF IMO rewards speed while THE IMO rewards actual mathematical ability. There is no real comparison.

Sorry?!?!?
It was just a viewpoint.
My apologies.
