Hi, I hope there are people who could help me:

I would like to know if it’s true that ranking and reputation of the universities counts a lot in the UK (regarding employment chances after graduation etc.)?

And if so, up to what Ranking number (overall & subject specific) within the UK would you say - in your personal opinion - that a university is “good” or “bad” [e.g. universities up to the top 20 or top 50 should be fine etc.] Obvisiously, Oxbridge and the top 10 UK Universities are among the best in the world, but since I don’t want to concentrate on those, I would like to know in which lower ranked universities I could look and where I would still get a good education.

Thanks for your help,
Sissy :)

This depends entirely on the field you want to work in. I work in law and it is very Oxbridge heavy. But if you want to be a teacher or a doctor I doubt anyone will care which uni you went to. Some industries are just more conservative than others.

I also think that if you go to a lower ranked uni and work really hard to excel you will have a great opportunity to succeed in whatever you do. Especially if you study a subject people have actually heard of. The problem is for people who don’t work hard , have to go to Random uni to study underwater basket weaving because of poor grades, spend all their time partying and get a Third. These people just end up with debts.

Also, some unis which are lowly ranked overall excel in just one or two subjects and are often highly favoured by recruiters in specific fields.

If you are considering which UK people in the US will have heard of, that will be none of them! So just pick wherever you like.
