If you have a good GPA, decent MCAT, but bad research, will research hurt your chances?

What exactly do you mean by “bad research”?

Badly done research? (Sloppy science)

A bad research experience with a toxic or abusive PI or lab supervisor?

Very little or insignficant research experience?

A research project that doesn’t pan out?

An unethical research project?

change your screen-name…if any SOM saw that it wouldn’t bode well.

@WayOutWestMom : Sorry for not clarifying. I meant if I barely had any research on my resume, would it hurt me even if I had a good GPA and decent MCAT?
@mom2collegekids : I’m trying to change my screen name now. I created this account several years ago when I was still immature haha.

OP, a lack of research will not hurt you as long as you are not trying to attend a school that has research as part of its mission. The more ECs you cover, the more flexibility you will have when it’s time to apply to medical school.

Thanks for the comment plumazul! I’m currently working on my EC’s right now such as volunteering at hospitals.
