Impossible conditional offer from King's College London?

Today I received a conditional admission offer for a BA Hons program at KCL. I’m an american student, and they are naming the conditions of my offer as me being able to provide a certificate of French fluency ( which I easily had on hand ) as well as taking 2 American AP Tests and achieving the top score of 5/5 on both of them.
Unfortunately, the registration period for the tests in the US closed about two weeks ago.
Will I be rejected for not being able to fulfill this impossible condition?

When you applied did you say that you were taking these APs? I have never heard of a UK uni giving a condition that was not listed as part of the application.

As a part of my transcript it showed that I was enrolled in a few AP classes, but high schools don’t require students taking the courses to take these exams. I decided not to take the AP exams (psychology and music theory) due to the fact that I was applying for mostly european universities as well as the fact that my american safety schools don’t even accept these exams as credit.

So it’s already too late to sign up to take the exams. The application didn’t have a section that explicitly had to pledge to take these exams.

Since at the moment it is literally impossible for me to take the exams, how should I proceed to negotiate with KCL?

The condition is impossible b/c you kicked to touch and got burned. Your school had to predict your mark on the AP, and the entrance requirements are explicit on the KCL website: saying that they didn’t make you ‘pledge’ to take the exam is not going to fly.

But, all is not lost: talk to your school- April 8 is their final deadline for getting tests from CB. They can help you do this, though they may be grumpy about it.

I met the entrance requirements. They give you an option of submitting ap scores or an SAT score. I met the SAT score entry requirements. oh well, I’ll contact them tomorrow.

You mis-read the requirements: 1) either 3 APs OR SAT subject tests AND 2) an SAT OR ACT score (see [here](http://www.kcl.ac.uk/study/undergraduate/apply/entry-requirements/international.aspx)).

I got a conditional offer as well for the Science and Business Managment school but I told them I was going to take 5 APs and I signed up for them just in case. You should have followed through with what you told them. This was poor planning on your part and no one else.

All I can say is, call the undergraduate office on the east coast (American representative) and recheck your requirements. My requirements tell me I can do a combination of APs of 5 and SAT of 680+. Luckily i have everything planned and should be fine as long as I study. When you call them, do not be aggressive and tell them this is their fault, because it isn’t.

I didn’t tell them I would take any further examinations. I wasn’t planning to have to follow through with everything.
Currently in talks with the department to get my conditional offer altered. It’s understandable that the office wasn’t aware of international exam schedules.
Thanks everyone for the advice.

“My requirements tell me I can do a combination of APs of 5 and SAT of 680+.”

Are you sure that’s SAT and not SAT II?

OP: more likely, it didn’t occur to them that someone would apply when the posted requirements were specific scores in AP tests, say they were taking AP classes, but then not plan on taking the exams. Do you think a British student who was offered a conditional offer on A level results could say, “Oh I wasn’t actually going to do the exams, you’ll take our word for it I would have got As in everything”? I don’t want to be unkind, but I would be very surprised if they accepted you without even attempting to meet your conditions (taking the tests and just missing the scores is a different matter), even as a desirable full pay international.

Also, collegemom3717 has pointed out that your school actually has until 8 April to get the test ordered, so you aren’t out of time yet anyway. Even as late as the 15th, if they’re willing to pay more:

There also seems to be some option for late testing.

You understand that entering a 3-year English university is kind of equivalent to entering as a sophomore in the US. This is why you are having issues. You can still apply to Scottish universities (St Andrews and Edinburgh). They are 4 year programs and probably wouldn’t have these conditions.

Another thing I see is that this situation will likely occur again, since UK students are not supposed to ‘be told’, thus making King’s a potential bad fit for you.

@MYOS1634, that thought has occurred to me- the OP may have be in for a jolt in the UK system

Welcome to the world of being treated like a grown up!

SirVinnie - keep the conversations going with admissions. Just make sure you get it in writing if they decide to change or offer new option to meet your conditional offer. If they will not budge then you need to immediately go to links provided by previous posters and work with your high school to get this done.

Conditional means CONDITIONAL upon meeting those requirements. The score of a 5 show them you have the potential to be successful at KLC. May things are linked to fulfilling the conditions. For example, you cannot even apply for a visa until they have been met.

Thank you for the constructive advice. After speaking to the office, it’s been understood that it was a misunderstanding on both sides, as I imagine there would be in international admissions.
They are considering an threshold for me to reach in two further SAT 2 exams in order to fulfill the conditional requirement.

SAT 2s are often accepted as a substitute for APs, so hopefully that will work out for you. Good luck!

Good luck and congrats for the offer! My son will be in the UK this fall and it is a new experience for us also!
