Question for people currently attending or who have attended the academy: How much time do you guys have for watching or participating in sports?
tbh I wish I went to new trier or Evanston rn.
guys, i have a dilemma. i just got my scholarship results from the private school im taking about and i have to pay 4K for tuition if i go to that private school. well, my family is low income so 4K is not easy to find. should i just go to the low performing charter school? it’s not like people in that charter school never got into imsa. there were like 3 people from that charter school who went or got accepted at imsa. please help me guys.
I KNOW @AviSaxena33 there are no indians in my community.
Dude @vniatge I would say that just go to ur regular hs. I mean 1. You have a higher chance of going to imsa from there. 2. Low cost 3. Colleges like if you are the top student at a hs. Something possible at ur regular hs.
@vniatge Also, take in account that if you go to the regular hs than you will have to work way harder than if you got to the other one given that it’s as “Bad” as you say. There may not be as many opportunities/classes and you may not cover some material that’s not required by recommended to know for major national tests,etc. and to keep up with the other highschool you may have to do extensive studying on your own time.
Honestly @vniatge just do what ur parents want u to do. If they wanna pay then by all means go- if not then there’s no point in even considering it…
@vniatge Agree with @priyaluvsbooks
@priyaluvsbooks thanks. well, they said it’s really up to me whether i want it or not. but they emphasized that if i dont get into imsa next year, they cant pay tuition any much longer for sophomore year and they have to send me back to my regular hs.
@vniatge take that oppurtunity! But remember… Your parents are sacrificing a lot. The least u can do is get into IMSA. Start studying for the SAT now! Do two or more practice tests each week ( that’s what I did) practice… That’s all u need for the SAT’s! Do as many extracurricular at the new hs! Do a sport! ( IMSA ) likes that… Join speech team. Have fun but Remember your goal!
How are you guys approaching teacher recs? I told all my teachers timely, giving them quite a while to get them done. My English teacher has turned in my rec, but my math teacher, science teacher, and optional rec haven’t. They’ve all accepted the request, but haven’t turned it in. When do you think I should remind them, if at all?
@yeldarb1
I approached my teacher recs right after I turned in my application. I would remind them a week after they accepted it and keep getting behind their backs every couple days or so after the week.
@yeldarb1 Creepy how we have the same exact situation. I am going to remind them this week and next week, just so they have time to think about it. I wouldn’t be pushy, because I know that would be annoying for me.
@yeldarb1 I sent it to them right after I turned in the app around January. I sent the ones that didn’t do it after a month (2 weeks ago) and for the ones I have left which is science teacher and the 2 counselor ones I will send them another reminder this weekend and if they don’t do it within a day or 2 I will approach them irl.
all of my reccs are turned in except for my english and Optional (woodshop) one…
Do you suggest using the optional teacher rec?
@MathScience123 Yes, but strictly if it will be an out of the box and enthusiastic one. The reason being is you know it’s optional and so does IMSA, so if you receive a normal review for the optional one that is supposed to be the suggested “Best” and most “detailed” as implied, then it will look really bad imo overall.
yeah, i gave my teachers the recs in january too- i just wish they would get it done! i know they’re probably busy with other things, but i really do need that in on time. maybe i’ll remind them friday of this week
i don’t think your optional rec HAS to be super out of the box- it would probably be good, but if you feel a past science or math teacher, or anyone regular knows you well, it can’t hurt. a good rec is a good rec no matter what, and if you feel that teacher/coach or whoever has great things to say, why not?
I am in 8th grade and am taking an online biology class to be eligible for IMSA. Do you guys no how to send them the transpcrit from ilvirtual.
