IMSA Applicant Class of 2018

Early May… I’ll take it. Although I’m not sure I completely want to know.

i’ll take whatever we can get when it comes to these letters coming earlier- which informational meeting was it where they said that? @priyaluvsbooks

“What Happens Next” the most recent one @yeldarb1

oh that’s weird i was there for that one- must have been distracted when they said that
that’s good to know though

Kind of off topic, but where do you guys want/plan to go to college? Right now I really want to go to Duke - Has a pretty good location, good sports program to watch, great academics, although the cost is kind of high.

@kidfood‌ Taking MIT out of the equation. 1) Stanford 2) Berkely 3) U of I Urbana

I really wanted to go to Berkeley too, but I don’t think I will be able to get in plus costs are even higher. UIUC should be easier since we are in-state and they admit a lot of people undecided. My brother didn’t have the best grades and he got admitted to general studies. He did that for about 2 years and now he is majoring in Math and Computer Science.

I feel like everyone wants to go to Stanford. And I also feel it is absolutely impossible…

It is nearly impossible, I believe the acceptance rate is lower in general than MIT. Berkely is not that hard to get in, in fact, a lot of us here have the SAT scores necessary to get in or at least are on par to have them in 2 years so that’s 1 part of the equation.

@AviSaxena33‌ You are right on point in my opinion.

though it will be a while, it is weird to think that college is actually not too far. i have no idea where i’d want to go- how do you guys decide which colleges are your ideal ones??

@yeldarb1‌ I simply look at my major (computer science) and look at the rankings of the college’s in that major. Of course, this is only the beginning and more in depth research will be done next year and junior year, but this is the majority of my decision. In many cases though including mine, there are 4 tied for 1st right now which are stanford, MIT, berkely, and carnegie mellon and then U of I Urbana is 5th so it’s a little confusing, but I’ve created my list of preferences.

Stanford is a stretch; it has the lowest acceptance rate in the country (5.1%) and has affirmative action.
For someone who wants to be an architecture major (on the West Coast), I think CalPoly is a good start.

@dimsumnoodles Yeah Stanford is a stretch for everyone.

so sick of illinois weather, i definitely hope i can go to college somewhere warm. it’s been nice lately though!
have you guys had trouble logging in on the imsa page to your tracker? i tried to sign in, but when i hit the “monitor your application here” button it goes to an “error, bad request” page.

No, but look on the bright side, the IMSA admissions page is completely irrelevant at this point to us.

@yeldarb1‌ I’m tired of this dreary grey weather too. If there are two things I miss the most about the West Coast, it’s

  1. Weather
  2. Good Asian food
But aside from that, Chicagoland is still a decent place to live and probably the only place I’d seriously consider in the Midwest.

@AviSaxena33‌, UC-Berkeley is selective enough now that (just like the private elites), just having the stats isn’t enough to get you in.

you’re from the west coast? that’s cool @dimsumnoodles i would never leave if i lived there
it was 70 today though, it was so nice i wanted to stay outside forever

Heyyyy, light AM snow showers on Monday. #Spring
