IMSA Applicant Class of 2018

@rialbhu I’m not really sure about waitlist but they probably have the same standard for putting people in order as the standard for accepting people and then they just call people in order as spots open up. I don’t know about this year but typically most wait list people get in. Even among my friends I know several of them are either from waitlist or are shmens.

@AviSaxena33 waitlist people go to orientation too. A girl who was on waitlist was in my orientation group but she did end up getting in anyway.

Oh that sucks kind of. It’s like you spend a day there getting high hopes and then if you don’t make it out the wait list it is kind of awkward per se.

I guess it would be kinda awk? But then again most waitlist people do get in bc a lot of people drop.

I’ve sent essays to the people who asked.

There are 79 people on the waitlisted this year

@aminorspark Thanks! I have one question though… Did these essays barely make IMSA or were they like “Who cares about anything else, these essays are great!” in your opinion… I am brainstorming how to write my essay effectively :).

Woooo 79 people …

While essays don’t make everything they are a HUGE part. When I was first applying(8th grade now an accepted 9th grader)I was told that some kids who had perfects scores on the SAT and straight A’s did not get in simply for not caring about the essays. I got to talk to an admissions officer about my application and he said that it needed to reflect ME. Teacher reccs are also important. If you are a lazy student, don’t turn in homework or do other stuff like that and the teachers says that in the recommendations chances are they won’t accept you. @lsutiger25

@ArabSprings @colucula @jxuwyrm so what laptop do you recommend getting?

Ok guys. I do 1 year ahead in Science, English, and Geography. I do 2 grades ahead in Math. I am going to apply to IMSA next year when I am in 8th grade. I am a B student. Will IMSA take into consideration about my advanced cources cause I am a B student?

@lsutiger25 Not really. To be honest, everyone that applies to IMSA is either 2-3 or more years ahead in math and advanced or honors in everything else so it’s average nothing special. With that being said as well, they expect straight As so it’s not like if you’re in algebra 2 honors and you have a B lets say as a freshmen that they’ll cut you some slack. However, if you’re from a bad area where your school has bad rep you might get some slack.

It’s all up to you, I’m changing laptops. I’m probably going toward a mac, but its all up to you. Most out of programs are either macs or gaming laptops.

@AviSaxena33 I go to Scullen Middle School which is located in District 204. District 204 is one of the most competitive districts in the nation, so do you think that they will take under consideration about how hard the curriculum is for the advanced classes in District 204. Also, what were your grades when you applied to IMSA, and were you in advanced classes?

@lsutiger25 I think actually because you are in a competitive district it’s much harder of course because of the competition which sounds pretty redundant after I typed it out lol. To answer your question, no not really, it’s really the opposite of what an applicant would want them to consider. My grades have always been straight A’s 4.0 gpa and I am in all honors level classes besides an AP class in my frosh year this year.

@AviSaxena33 Would IMSA cut you just cause you get B grades. I took practice SAT and got 700 in both math and CR. And I was voted the best writer in my grade level, so I am good at writing essays. My teachers adore me because I am always attentive. Do you think just because of grades ill get cut?

@lsutiger25 Not really. The average GPA is not a perfect one I believe. But here’s the thing, if say an applicant is not very involved or doesn’t have many awards, then it really hurts badly if on top of that he doesn’t have the 4.0 gpa and what not and vice versa you know what I’m saying? So with that being said, if you’re a very involved and recognized person then a little cut in ur application won’t hurt your chances as much as example 1 mentioned above.

@AviSaxena33 Ok thanks. Also, I applied for something known as the Google Science Fair. You may of heard of it. Lets just say I become a regional finalist, global finalist, or grand prize winner of the Google Science Fair. Would this raise my chances somewhat?

@lsutiger25 Any notable recognition

@Isutiger25 I had a B in three subjects this year. AP Human, Honor’s Alg/Trig, and Spanish. But I got in with no problem. I had a 700-700 SAT score too, as well as multiple awards. I showed my teachers the essays- and they were impressed so i guess the essays were good.
