Imsa applicant class of 2019

Can anyone comment on my chances. Oct sat M770, CR 510 - I didn’t prep. Few Bs in 8th grade and also in first sem 9th.

@ads123 Your math score is really good but your CR really needs to be around at least 600s. Also, I think they’re also counting the writing section but it’s kinda at the end of the process. Only Bs that really count is if they were in Math, English, or Science. If you have them in those classes this semester, try and pull them up to As by the end of the semester. it doesn’t matter if they’re A- or just A.

How do you think the competition is in your area and how do you think your teacher evaluations will be?

EDIT: Your composite of the two is only 1280, typically it should be around the 1350s minimum?

@ads123 Hey. That Math score is like amazing. But that CR score is very bad xD. IMSA looks at your 7th grade, 8th grade, and the first semester of 9th grade. Calculate your GPA using this http://www.ohe.state.mn.us/sPages/gpa.cfm It is easier to chance you with a GPA.

Thanks red 42413 and Isutiger. Local competition is very fierce so I’m not expecting a call. My evals should be ok but very hard to get into math and science teams. I have some stuff and also have done CTD but thanks for your comments and good luck

@ads123 Oh well, good luck to you too!

Honestly, I am just hoping for the interview tbh lol. My parents are asian so they expect me to get into IMSA this year or next year.

SAME

Haha, I have a feeling a lot of our parents are like that

Are y’all Asian?

Yuppity. German/Taiwanese half and half but I’ve had a very traditional Taiwanese upbringing. You?

Yeah I’m full Indian. Ugh problems with going to neuqua is that it’s Naperville school. And like compared to other high schools (waubonsie and Metea), neuqua barely sends anyone to neuqua. So many people from waubonsie and metea get in, but only the elites of neuqua get in.

I’m full Indian. @red42413 that sucks @lsutiger25

I’m full Indian too. Naperville 203. My parents are not pushing me. They say it’s worth a try. I don’t see my CR score improving a whole lot. I think I have to start leaving questions.

@ads123 Ahh u live in the dreaded Naperville like me! Us Napervillians have the hardest competition to get into IMSA alas D:

True, look at past statistics. However, the way I look at it, we have great schools and we’ll all end up getting a good education. CR is my Achilles heel. Math is my strong point. And I’m not sure my CR will improve anytime soon

@ads123 CR is pretty easy tbh. It just requires you to be able to comprehend long wordy passages that you will never actually want to read. So, for practice, just pick up one of those big magazines like TIME, and sit down and read it. Once you are done reading, try to summarize the events in the magazine as much as you can. For Vocab, I just used Direct Hits.

@ads123 I agree with what @lsutiger25 said: just read a lot of higher level stuff and write down what you don’t understand then try to learn a few unknown words and concepts in the reading material. Math is hard to improve because it’s execution; CR is really just learning how to look at things.

Thanks y’all. Anyone taking Nov SAT?

Nope. December for me @ads123

@ads123 I’m taking the November one
