Eh heh. How is the average GPA accepted to IMSA a 3.93. Like, out of everyone in metea applying to iMSA who was in PA (Gifted Program) in middle school and take similar coerces as me in high school (besides pre calc), only two have a GPA of 3.93. And, the people I talk to who got into IMSA from metea had a GPA below that so I am confused
A lot students, like me, don’t have that kind of opportunity. IMSA takes this into account so they also accept those students who don’t have that program. Which is the majority. Like I have a 4.375 GPA and a 100 in almost of my classes. But I only take Honors Bio, Honors Integrated Math I, and English Honors. Now if you had B’s in those classes that wouldn’t look good on your app. but I think you will be fine because of the classes youre in. @floridagators100 @red42413 @rattybatty
So a 3.8 in the program’s I take is like equivalent to a 3.93 in the program’s you take. And, will it look bad to IMSA if I had the 3.8 GPA in the classes I take?
Ok I am a current imsa student and scrolling through this chat I see a lot of misconceptions:
So a lot of people are saying that a bad GPA will kill you, but I know people who got in with a 2.5 unweighted, so it is a huge factor, but not enough to entirely knock you out of an applicant pool
It is true that IMSA takes into account race, however, it is not as big of an issue as it may seem. The biggest part of the application is the essay and the teacher reccomendations, things that can be done equally well among all races. Do not think that you have to get a certain SAT score because you are Indian.
Carrying on from that point, if you have 550’s on the SAT, that makes NO DIFFERENCE to Admissions counselers than someone who receives 750’s
Lastly, the biggest piece of advice I can offer is to put pictures in your essays. Your essay will stand out, and people will remember it. Put a picture of you doing something you are passionate about, out a picture of something you have been drawing the past few weeks, etc. Having pictures in one of an essay will increase the quality of your application ten fold
What?! How is getting a 550 on the SAT the same thing to the IMSA officers as getting a 750. Just wondering…
Should it be a picture of me at a state/national competition, like while I’m doing something important and look focused, or a picture of something I did at home that I’m proud of and has connections to math and science. @Chultkin15
How many hours of homewwork does Metea Valley Give
Eugh, IMSA applications got moved to December 1st. Does anyone know why that might’ve happened?
@YoloSwagMaster the admissions counselers use the SAT to see if the person applying is bright enough to attend IMSA. They don’t really take into account the magnitude of your SAT as long as you get above a certain score. I don’t know what that score is but I believe it is around 550. They use the SAT not as a major factor in your application, but more of a check mark, like yep, he has a good SAT, move him onto the next stage
@Chultkin15 Thanks for the advice. It is super helpful to get a IMSA students advice. One of the essay questions on the DRAFT application asks about what service project you would do if you were givin $1,000. Do you think the project should be related to STEM or is it ok if it is not.
@Chultkin15 Thanks for the advice. So, in your honest opinion, how do I stand with a 700 math, 650 cr, 3.8 gpa (honors bio, honors english, honors precalc), barely any awards besides state science fair gold, lots of EC’s, and predicting really good teacher recommendations.
@rattybatty Ahah it varies. Honestly, Yes we do get a lot of homework, but unlike my peers, I usually get all my stuff done really fast and still accurate. But with the classes I’m in its more of the study not the homework. Like, yes homework is there, but studying for tests is the biggest part in order to succeed at Metea.
Are any of you guys on your Schools Robotics Teams
@rattybatty My school has no robotics team. If we had one then I would for sure be on it lol. My school has no STEM extra curriculars in general.
@rattybatty Welll… Technically? I mean, we don’t compete and we have almost zero funding but I’m on it and I attend meetings and participate in what we do so yeah. I did compete in FLL for the last four years prior to this though.
@floridagators100 Hey! You went to Metea? So did I prior to going to IMSA! Message me if you need any help with apps or just have questions
@priyaluvsbooks What were your stats prior to applying to IMSA?
Hey! I was on fll for the last 4 years too. A lot of my awards are from there. @rattybatty @red42413
@YoloSwagMaster Haha awesome and same here! Granted, they’re hung up in the main office of my school (tiny school so all awards from students are hung up there) so I’ll probably have to check in while doing my app to make sure I got them all written down. Did you ever compete in Zion by any chance for the December comps?
No we just did the regional and state competitions in february
Ahh, we usually qualified but never had funding past the qualifiers
But it’s freaking awesome that you guys went to state and regionals!
