@notarapper you made me laugh, thanks =)) If it is all that takes to get in IMSA - not to sniff markers during SEAMS, I am in a good shape =)) I also really like their rules: no spaghetti straps, no short shorts/skirts, no low cut tops, no halter tops, … undergarments should not be shown. Just a dream place to go!!! Really tired of hooker-looking dressed people at my school X_X
@javascript Here is some info for integrated science.
“We are in the process of determining all the acceptances. We have started a first round, but we are still processing some applications. You should know definitively by next Monday.”
By monday we will know if we got in or not. I think Integrated science may be a harder program to get into than SEAMS lmao
@lsutiger25 Well, the admission committee for SEAMS is the same as admission committee for IMSA. Integrated science is different, it is student enrichment service: the first thing that Integrated science committee is looking for is if you are free lunch eligible or if you are underrepresented (black/hispanic/native american). SEAMS did not require free lunch eligibility at least, which means anybody can compete for the spot at SEAMS.
@CharlesVarracuda First of all, that doesn’t drop everyone’s GPA. You can’t compare how everyone does to how you’ll do because there’s really no way to tell until you get here. Even if it does affect your GPA, for one, colleges will see that you go to IMSA and oftentimes be more lenient and especially, they’ll look at the classes you’re taking so if you have not the best grades on your transcript but you’ve taken organic chemistry, calc-based physics and multi-variable calculus, they’re not going to care as much. Plus, your grades is just generally a portion of your application. There’s also test scores, essays, extracurriculars, etc.
p.s. UIUC is IMSA’s safety school, meaning so long as you do an SIR (if you don’t know what that is, it’s just a year long research upperclassmen can do) you’re basically guaranteed to get accepted there. It’s not a bad college but 441 out of 463 IMSA students from the past 3 years got accepted so it’s not hard to get accepted from IMSA.
@javascript Seriously though, SEAMS does help your chances into getting accepted but it doesn’t guarantee you anything. I might be wrong but I’m pretty sure it’s just a very slight boost in your chances. Not many students at IMSA now actually went to SEAMS.
And all of the dress codes aren’t enforced as strictly as others, especially short shorts, low cuts (to an extent), and spaghetti straps. People just don’t see a big deal in however you dress and that goes with both guys and girls. You’ll see people in their pajamas a lot of the time and no one cares.
@javascript SEAMS falls under the PROMISE programs, which are programs meant for underrepresented people in the state.
@notarapper So, I don’t have to take the science placement test? But, where am I gonna get placed if I don’t take the class?
I think all incoming sophmores are placed in biology, and you can’t test out of it
@ansekdls3 @caressmytoenails They’re changing how the science tests work this year. This year, every sophomore took the test whether we already took the class or not but I guess for you guys, you can just choose to take the science placement test. Otherwise, the difficult placement is chemistry and physics for one semester, biology and MSI (which is a research class that prepares you for an SIR) for the other. If you test out of chem and physics, you’ll be placed in one of the electives. And yeah, you can’t test out of biology.
thank you for all the info. I got invited for class 2019, anyone can add me to KIK(?) group? thank you.
…it is seems like IMSA applicant class of 2019 forum died… All gone to KIK…
@XxSwegLordxX I have heard SEAMS has a waitlist. There were about 250 applicants for about 70 spots…
This is very necessary information not a lot of people have shared: https://www.imsa.edu/studentlife/class-2019
I’m so jealous. Your guys’ summer reading is sooooo good compared to ours ;(((
Can someone add me to the KIK chat?
Placement testing is so soon!
since i got waitlisted and my chances of getting in are pretty slim (im 1 person out of 81 soo) do i have to do the summer reading or not?
@bballtennis Just so you know, a lot of people generally get pulled off of the waitlist. For our class, something like 20 out of 60 students got pulled off, and you also don’t know where you are on the waitlist. Some people will get called back in the next two weeks and some people will get pulled off on the day of move in. Either way, your summer reading is definitely worth doing, and if you don’t want to do that, at least listen. Your reading is way better than ours was.
@notarapper Wait, why do people get pulled off the waitlist on the day of move in? Isn’t that kinda bogus from IMSA’s part? I mean, shouldn’t IMSA at least finalize their decisions BEFORE the move in day?
@CharlesVarracuda I know you did not ask me, but as far as I know (was attending a preview day), they said waitlisted people better have their bags packed and ready to go at any time, because they can call you on moving in day and you will only have 24 hours or less to arrive.
The reason you can get called as late as move in day is that some accepted students change their minds about attending IMSA as late as move in day Some call IMSA about their decision on that day. cold feet maybe So someone gets off the wait list the same day.
@CharlesVarracuda It’s not IMSA’s fault. People get pulled off on move in because people who said they would come just don’t show up and they have no way of knowing who will actually come.
