Pretty bad about 1860 how about you @yoloswagmaster I will retake doe
I got a 2050. @lsutiger25. Individual scores?
First of all, IMSA is not shutting down, and second of all @Isutiger25 it doesn’t matter how many extracurricular’s you have if you don’t show that you are passionate about Math and Science. Great, you’re doing STEM club- everyone does stem club. get some awards, show that you are passionate about it.
@YoloSwagMaster 650 Math, 610 CR, 600 Writing. I did not study for writing so I understand that. I understand why i failed CR cause I do not know how to do the vocab questions at the start of each section. Math I understand because I do not know how to do the hard math questions on the test. How did you study for these parts of the test? I am retaking in december.
@priyaluvsbooks Its just a rumor m9. And yeah I do math counts, student council, and robotics club. I got IJAS awards as well.
I agree with priyaluvsbooks, I am in STEM Club but I won a award at the TSA event for my category
Well yeah, you do need good math/science awards. But don’t you have a lot of those @lsutiger25
Hey, I was wondering if anyone with experience could tell me my odds/what I need to improve on. ^-^
-4.0 GPA this year
-All honors classes
-Robotics for five years, two team awards
-Dance for one year
-Cross country/track for five years
-Music (Flute and vocals) for five years
-Volunteer work for four years
-Math team for one year- My team got second place twice this year in local competitions so far and I double as a Freshman contestant and a Sophomore alternate
-SAT Scores of Math (670) and CR (670)
-I was born in Taiwan but I live in Illinois (Kinda a no-brainer but just want to clear things up)
- I am proficient in German, Mandarin (Traditional script), English, and Spanish.
(EDIT)- Scholastic Bowl for one year. We’re being considered for one of the local Masonic lodges for the Masonic Lodge competition - One B from last year in math but everything else has been straight As every year. I applied last year as an 8th grader but got denied. I know I need to improve on my SAT scores to be around 700s minimum but do you think I would be pretty good if I just did that? I took the Oct SAT (Scores above) but I am also taking the November one to improve on my score.
@red42413 Yeah you make a solid candidate. Improve that SAT score. The volunteer work and the many languages are really good as well. Just out of curiosity, what area of illinois do you live in. The demographics are important for IMSA. Since I live in a place known as Naperville, I have a tougher chance of getting in unlike a person from like Southern Illinois.
The one thing I am lacking is math awards D: But this year I am in math counts, and we participate in AMC 8. The AMC 8 team only allows a certain about of people in math counts. Usually the smartest people in the math counts. So, hopefully I do good on the testing.
(i know i am asking too many questions). Also, how are you guys preparing for the SAT so far…
@lsutiger25 Yeah, it’s pretty bad- my SAT was kinda like a cold score without any studying or anything, I was pretty sleep deprived too due to not getting home til midnight. (Matching band oh well).
I’m doing Kaplan for my SAT score and review on the collegeboard website. I dunno how specific I can be on where I’m from, hahaha. I’m around the Libertyville area in Cook County. Why does the part of Illinois matter to IMSA? (Just curious how the place v. chances is determined)
@red42413 Nice nice. I’m an 8th grader btw applying to IMSA. Also, the part of illinois you live in is very important for IMSA. There tends to be more people applying from areas closer to IMSA. Also, it matters on how quality the school you come from is. More quality schools tend to have more people applying to IMSA. The problem is IMSA can only take a certain amount of people from each area. So, if you live in a random city that no one knows about in illinois, you have a great chance of getting in. If you live right next to IMSA, good luck buddy because you will have to compete against many applicants.
@lsutiger25 Ahhh. Well, if it helps, I asked one of my school counsellors and he told me that the last applicant to IMSA from my school was roughly 6/7 years ago? And my area is pretty sparse in potential applicants- most everyone goes to the local high school and nowhere else because it is a pretty good public school. Fingers crossed, hahaha!
@red42413 Ahah then that 670 in both sections is really good. The average accepted applicant has a 620 in CR and a 670 in Math. And average GPA is 3.93 for accepted applicants. Since you do not live in an area that produces many IMSA applicants unlike me, I think you will make it in. But, good luck in the admissions process!
Also @red42413, on the bright side even if you somehow do not make it in, you will still be going to a great public high school!
@lsutiger25 Ooh yay, good luck to you too! And I’m going to a great private school nearby but yeah ^-^ And if you don’t get in this year as an 8th grader, I’m sure you’ll get in as a 9th grader next year!
@red42413 Thanks! Also, I was wondering what was your SAT score when you applied in the 8th grade?
@lsutiger25 It was somewhere around 1980 total. I don’t remember the individual scores, sorry
Hey @red42413 I’m a 9th grader applying to the school and applied last year. Were you invited to the 8th grade interview? I heard it was good to have that on your application
@red42413 hey! I read what your application looks like and it’s really nice! Don’t worry too much about your SAT scoreds. My roommate had about the same(ish) application as you did and she’s was accepted as an 8th grader this year too. Her SAT was around the same as yours, so keep your grades up and you should be fine!
