India Class of 2015 Results Thread (RD)

^^ what do you mean?

@mysticgohan HK weather is WONDERFUL! Well not wonderful but pretty good. Lol I am a HKer. Hahah I love it here. Today was so nice and spring-y. Are you from Delhi? I kind of wish I had applied to Pomona to bask in the sunshine (if I had made the cut) but as of now my only sunny options are USC and HKU. I have a cousin in UIUC but I have cousins everywhere haha

@mysticgohan- Hey I applied to Cambridge too. Was pooled (aka waitlisted) and then rejected. Were you at the Interview in Delhi.

@Gaara your stats are not spectacular?! Those are amazing. Which all countries have you lived in? Hi5 from another TCK.

@Putturani: Alright we have different definitions of good weather >.< Today was biting cold with hell lot of wind. And yeah im from Delhi which is nice and springy now  Yeah i got ubiquitous cousins too
@Nishat: Nope I gave my Cam interview in S’pore. Did you take IB or the A levels? (oh and im aware of what pooling means  )

I am sure people with better stats than me exist Puttu. Which is exactly why I got rejected from MIT. :)

Well, India is one of them. :stuck_out_tongue:
Sorry, I’d like to keep my identity confidential.

Gaara dont get discouraged by MIT. The US admissions are freaking random. You’re stats are really fantastic! You just need one good place to like you and that’ll happen :D

@Mysticgohan- Haha the clarification on pooling was for non-Cambridge applicants ;). I am doing IB. MATH PHY ECO HL! One of my friends got the Manmohan Singh Scholarship. Cambridge is a great place, I’d rate it no.1 in your list! And very tough to get into! Well done :)

@ Gohan, yeah I think my loyalty for HK is drummed deep into me. Well we’re Indian, of course we have cousins everywhere.

@Gaara, I understand. hahaha my CC username is known amongst my classmates so I kind of envy your confidentiality. I’ve revealed so much on CC, someone from my school could really find out the ins and outs of my stats if they wanted.

And mysticgoan is right. I can’t believe some of the stats threads I’ve seen this year. Well I’ve mostly focused on the UCs (for some odd reason cuz I didn’t apply) and even schools like UCSB and UCD were sooo random this year.

@nishad - yay! another IB physics HL person! nice to have company

@Nishat: Cambridge better than Caltech for engineering? Really? I am aware that its very good but yeah thanks anyway. I didnt really expect to get in. Where else did you apply in the UK? And isnt the Manmohan Singh scholarship only for particular colleges there? Only 3 if im not wrong.

Yep Yep so cheer up Gaara! There are several decisions yet to come
BTW putturani how good is HKU vis-a-vis NUS? As unbiased as possible please ;)

That’s going to be hard. Well actually I don’t know anything about NUS so I can’t really say, sorry. But according to the QS and Times Higher Ed world university rankings, HKU is 23 or 21 and NUS is 31. But it depends on the department, I am sure. I applied for Social Science in HKU and it’s not that competitive. Idk, but HK is a more fun city for sure! (in my biased opinion of course)

No wayyy! S’pore is less crowded than HK for one  But i must admit it is pretty nice. Do you visit the mainland often? Which other places in the US are you waiting on?

I like how there are so many TCK Indians cropping up here. It’s quite cool, and makes me feel less strange
To anyone doing IB Physics, I respect you a lot. The poor Physics students at our school are the butt of all jokes. They’re ridiculously smart, but the harsh grading curves give them so much woe.

Rejected Midd. **** Life.

Arunemo and pixie- Midd decision?

@Mysticgohan- 1) MIT 2) Stanford 3) Berkeley 4) Cambridge 5) Caltech 6) Imperial for Engineering acc. to QS rankings (worldwide). My friend who’s got into both Caltech and Berkeley says that Caltech is out-of-this-world for pure sciences. For engineering majors, he says Berkeley is better. And Cambridge’s prestige is almost unparalleled. Anywhere in the world, people will look at you with awe when you say I educated at a town called Cambridge(shire). And yeah, Cam is no. 1 overall (debatable) and no. 1 for Natural Sciences (hands down).
The Manmohan Singh Scholarship is for all colleges at UG level. It’s only for Indians (who are schooled in India, I believe). All expenses (tuition+accommodation) paid, plus a living allowance an return airfare to India every year. BEAT THAT! :P

@Everyone rejected/wait listed at Middlebury- Guys, I checked out the RD thread, and I couldn’t see 1 International accepted who asked for aid. Of course, there must be some, but they’re not on CC. Many Americans who got in aren’t going there because the aid package they got is very low. And yeah, most people with 800s on SAT IIs have been rejected/wait listed (I had both 800s-wait listed). They’re not taking Math/Physics/Economics (in short, technical) people at all. Speaks a lot about Midd. They focus a lot on languages and arts. So don’t lose heart people!
@whotoldyou- “Somewhere you belong, mate!”
@Putturani and Arunemo- Yeah! IB PHYSICS RULES… But it’s too easy. No calculus at all. Simple Physics. But it’s probably the most practically based Physics course in the world. Makes you think a lot, and builds solid concepts (rather than filling your brain with 1000s of formulae). I must say I got my 800 on SAT II Physics almost completely on my IB Physics study.

@nishadpotdar Really?! OMG you find it easy? I actually find it okay enough but I’m holding on to a seven with my fingernails. Of course, my teacher isn’t the greatest but I’m pretty worried for the exam. Congrats on the 800 SAT 2! I got 680 on the SAT physics exam with just IB prep. Found it pretty hard. Anyone doing Higher English here?

Mysticgohan, have you lived in S.E. Asia before? I don’t visit the mainland often, maybe once a year at most. I’m waiting on Columbia, Amherst, Swarthmore and UMich

Is it me, or are most LACs are harshly evaluating international apps with financial need this year, especially wesleyan, midd and vassar?

if you asked for even a little funding, you’re downright screwed/rejected/at the best waitlisted, it seems.

And God only knows what’s wrong with colgate! ****ty toothpaste college seems to have the air of harvard now. no offense to any colgate admit.

Lets hope the remaining LACs (Amherst, Williams and Swarthmore for me) don’t feel the same way. Amherst is need blind anyway.

Anyone here got into Reed?

@whotoldyou, I felt the same way about Colgate too, after the rejection.

^ Not just this year; they do that every year. Applying for FA effectively jeopardizes your chances to an unfathomable degree. Cheers to that.
