India Class of 2015 Results Thread (RD)

Congrats pixie :slight_smile:
@ aniruddh: We got 2 people into Stern from our school.
I was just wondering if it would be possible for people to post US universities that their classmates/batchmates got into along with the number per university (include yourself too)?

^ Isn’t Middlebury need-blind for us?

oh yeah, I remember now. They have a weird policy for us.

“Middlebury College meets 100% of all admitted students’ demonstrated financial need. As a result of the financial crisis, Middlebury has altered its need-blind policy for international students. Beginning with the 2008–2009 academic year, the College admits international students on a need-blind basis only to the extent that resources permit. The College continues to meet the full demonstrated need of all admitted international students.”

@mynameisv:Kind of like what they did in the Pakistani forum, right ?
In our case the list would be very very huge if every one starts posting their classmates/friends’ decisions. Perhaps we could limit these to a select few universities only? That would make sense.

Got waitlisted for NYU AD…I’m pretty low :frowning:
what do you think my chances are?

@Itsmylife99-
“Middlebury makes every effort to help all candidates obtain the financial aid they need in the form of grants, loans, and work/study jobs. In the case of international students, Middlebury follows a need-aware admissions policy.”

@compscifan: We would be exclusionists then, won’t we? :stuck_out_tongue: But nevertheless, yes your logic makes sense. However, when you said decision did you mean only acceptance or rejection/waitlist too. Because what I had in mind was an acceptance only list.
So would you recommend we limit the list to Ivies, top-notch LACs, UCs, NYU and probably a couple of other Top-30 universities. In my opinion, I think we should limit the list to universities with sub 30% acceptance rates. Perhaps that will keep the list at a sensible size. I also suggest that if possible (I know how much people care about anonymity) could you also include the name of your school. This would be completely voluntary of course, but it will prevent dual-posting by members from the same school apart from the obvious benefit of helping us see the quality of acceptances from a particular school.
Any thoughts?

I have a feeling that colleges like University of Chicago and Middlebury just waitlist people who they would have taken without aid, but can’t afford to spend 200k on…

@mynameisv:

Removed from here. PMed

@nishadpotdar
I’m so sorry about the waitlist. :frowning: I got wait-listed from Wellesley so I know how it feels. I really hope you get off it or into some place much better. Where else did you apply? I got in. I’m feeling happy :smiley: but overwhelmed. There’s so much to think about now.

Congo Putturani! Well done! All my remaining schools are far more selective than Middlebury. Most have a sub 10% admit rate. I don’t think I need to say more :-)

Congratulations PuttuRani!

I have only been accepted at Rice Uni till now. Waitlisted at Caltech and rejected at MIT(:().
Waiting for few more and also singapore unis…

Puttu, congrats! That’s awesome! Now you have a pretty difficult decision ahead of you!

nishad: Midd is so horrible with aid for international students, that this waitlist definitely means you’re a very good applicant. I mean, for Midd acceptance rate for internationals asking for fin aid tends close to 2%, so I wouldn’t be too pessimistic about those <10% acceptance rate schools!

Wow Putturani! Wellesley is great! Its an enviable position to be in :wink: What places are you considering?

Thanks guys. Now that the euphoria that I am going to college has worn off, I am just kind of overwhelmed by the thought of leaving home. All of us internationals will have to take some tough decisions to leave home. Eep!

Congrats Gaara! Rice is one of my favourite unis, I only didn’t apply because it is more science-focused but man, if it wasn’t I wish I could have applied. And Houston is a great city. My cousin goes there.

Thanks Gohan, I actually didn’t get into Wellesley. :stuck_out_tongue: I got into USC, Upitt, Midd and HKU. Of course, my mom is all for me going to HKU. I kind of wish those US colleges were in HK so I wouldn’t have to leave my family.

Congratulation Gaara1992!!!What were your stats like??

Are you Indian or American Indian?

Oops! My mistake! So which is the most likely place you’re headed? :D

^ No idea. As of now, Midd. USC and HKU are very tempting too though. USC because it’s nice and sunny and near an international airport and HKU because I won’t have to leave home. The sun is tempting but Midd is a good school too. :S very confused. Waiting on five more decisions now. Where are you headed? You’ve got a nice bunch of choices too. :D

“Success is a science; if you have the conditions, you get the result.” Oscar Wilde :smiley:
You may want to link this to your nationality, financial status, high school curriculum etc etc. I won’t do that :P

@perfectpixie- Woah! 2% for aid applicants? That’s unbelievable. How much is it for applicants asking for a full-ride? :stuck_out_tongue: Where did you pull that stat out from. This has made me happy, very happy! Thanks! :D

Well my choices arent that varied in the US actually. If you include the UK then yeah Im deciding, as things stand, between Caltech, UIUC, Cambridge and Imperial. Though im leaning quite a bit towards Californian sunshine :wink: The weather in HK is terrible btw >.< Like Delhi a couple months ago :(

Violator, my stats were okay, nothing spectacular. 2380 SAT, 800x4 (PCM+French) + 780x1 (Lit). Some good ECs, many science related.

I hold an Indian passport. No, not American Indian. I have actually spent all my life traveling all over the place, so I don’t identify with a particular nationality. Just a bit of here and there haha.
