India Class of 2015 Results Thread (RD)

Congrats nomad!!! :D

^^Three other Jaipur students have also done that! Albeit through the Tata Scholarship. :)

thanks all, cs at mumbai is my choice. But i still wish i could have applied to mit. :frowning: But yes i’m happy and still hoping for a transfer :D

Is nt Kanpur no longer number 1 for CS?

BITs pilani = #1 for CSE.

Though most of my frnds who had a rank good enough to * pick * from the IITs chose bombay.

mumbai is closer home so that is another factor

This is one of my favorite links that I unsuspectingly stumbled upon loong ago.
[YouTube - ‪Russell Peters - Beating Your Children‬‏](<a href=“- YouTube”>- YouTube)
I can’t stop laughing whenever I watch this. Absolutely awesome. :D

^ Russell Peters is awesome, pixie. You HAVE TO watch his other shows and concerts

Pixie - Peters is really popular with Asian kids in US. He is one they can relate to in terms of their experiences with their own Asian parents.

n0mad -Am I to understand Kanpur is no longer considered top CS in IITs or proximity to Bombay was the deciding factor?

I dont remember Pilani even having a CSE dept since several of my classmates did EE 30 years ago at Pilani as the best dept available at that time. Kanpur was considered the best for CS if people could get in (only top 50-75 made the cut if I remember correctly). Lot of the people who graduated from there back in the 80s have become professors at some of the best schools in US.

pixie, Russel Peters is hilarious. I didn’t know about him until someone (funnypunjabi or bubbles) posted a link on TiT18.

Talking about Indian parents (in the US), me thinks (with all due respect) that they are more obsessed about college rankings than ABCDs.

@texaspg mumbai cs is top now, last year it opened at rank 2 and closed at 116 and it is even closer home plus mumbai is a great city so this is the reason for my choice.

what is more surprising is electrical engineering, it opened on rank 1 and closed on 98 :O

Tippu: I guess it’s because they grew up in India where the only basis on which students choose colleges is rankings?

^ Ah yes, that makes sense.

Sorry not just Indian parents, Asian parents. They don’t actually care for the rank, they like the prestige of the Ivies. So Brown is considered ahead even if MIT and Caltech are 10 ranks ahead of it.

Thanks for the info n0Mad. People interested in chemical used to go to Bombay IIT back in my day. One of my seniors from high school who was ranked 26 or so went to Bombay IIT and ended up at MIT for a Ph.D. with a full fellowship. He seems to be big shot at biocon now.

People mah 12th board results are out, got 70.22 percent :P

nomad, board scores have no bearing on IIT admission? Is there a minimum requirement?

Yeah there is a minimum requirement. It is 60%. So much for minimum requirements.

hey could anyone tell me whats the tata scholarship everyone’s talking about?
