Indian School (Science) but LAC & US history SAT

I want to get into a LAC to pursue minor in history but had classes history only till my sophomore year.My school does not offer classes in senior and junior years .So i opted for subjects Physics Chemistry Maths Evironmental science english and maths.
Will giving SAT in USH demonstrate a keener interest and be advantageous in comparision to giving physics.BTW i do have sufficient time to prepare USH but physics is already prepared.

Yes I think giving SAT in USH will improve your chances to get admissions at LACs if you are considering minoring in history. Also the Advanced Placement examination has USH and world history which I think you should definitely write along with SAT II to demonstrate your interest.

ok then USH it is.Thanks

USH is a little hard for Indians, try the World History one. From what I know of Indian education, there isn’t a very indepth coverage of USH, but WH is much easier in comparison.

WH is like huge from neolithic to war (cold) and for indepth knowledge i will have to cover at least three books where as in case USH thre is relatively a lot less to study(time period of USH )Uore in swath’more ?
what did u give WH or USH or u have taken up science…?
I will carefully compare expanse of two branches of history…

Umm i dont know whether i am the idiot here but schools dont admit you by your major…and infact u are even thinking that they are going to admit/reject you based on your minor interest…( i dont think any school even asks you to designate a MINOR the max they do is ask your prospective MAJOR)…any ways i am going to do a MINOR in economics at my school (which btw i havent studied at all in my life)…so basically at this point you dont have to show your school that you are good in your MINOR…u have to show them that you are good in academics…and you can do that by giving the Physics SAT which as u say is prepared (trust me an 800 on Physics SAT will impress them more than a last minute effort in US History)…

Anyways what are u majoring in ??

I will give USH in october or later in later so its still time and physics 800 is lik a weeny bit tough( read I hate physics)Major will be economics or History(remote chances as of now )
i can manage 720 (approx) in practice test USH .
and if it doesnt work i will give physics it will be prepared even better then

ohh i see I will waste time over USH if i end up giving physics as well .but then atleast i have an excuse to study history if i take USH

Excuse to study USH???Excuse for whom/what…

and yes if u have taken the SAT I u have what like 3 dates (oct-dec) for SAT II’s and u can easily give both of them…Initiall u said you were going to replace physics with USH and i objected to that…if u are giving both then its cool or even better as the more varied academic competence u present the better it is…but if u give only USH and get like 700 and someone else gives physics and gets 800 he is showing better competence in his subject…Remember when evaluating the adcomms wont differentiate on subjects they just see SATII Vs SATII not USH vs Physics…

The Excuse for USH as school teachers along with parents minutely monitor study plans(prep classes for JEE etc) of every student and actually make sure that the plans are followed to the detail(regular tests). If i include USH as my SAT subject I will be forced to allocate time for History and thus cut down on dreary sciences
I havent said i will give physics surely .The decision is subjective to my performance in USH .If i dont get satisfactory scores in USH I will go onto to give sat physics.
I gave chem and maths and besides my syllabus might appear one dimensional if i add phyiscs to top it off.None or very few of my ECs are concerned with science and it might appear that i have capability but no direction and focus

I disagree with what Vampiro said about whether you do SAT II Physics or SAT USH it is counted as the same. The admission officer will definitely look at what subject the student has written the examination in. If one goes for engineering and does Physics scores 700 and someone else writes the economics paper and scored a 800 would the economics guy be given preference over the other? Obviously not.

“one dimensional if i add phyiscs to top it off.”
3 out of the 5 MIT’ians i know gave PCM as their SAT II…was good enough for them…

I do agree though that if u dont have science EC"s it would’nt really be much help because you’ll be just another high scorer…if u have already given chem and math then you can give USH no probs because 2 SAT II’s pretty much cover the requirement for most schools…so your third subject can be USH or Physics…

“If one goes for engineering and does Physics scores 700 and someone else writes the economics paper and scored a 800 would the economics guy be given preference over the other? Obviously not.”
Not that i advocate that SAT scores are the be all end all of admissions…but well spose in a hypothetical case if 2 guys are same and one gave economics as one his SAT II and other gave Physics as his SAT II…but 1 got 800 and 2 got 700…2 will be plainly rejected and 1 accepted…because US universities
1.Promote Interdepartmental education
2. Judge your academic potential rather than your capacity
3. They know that students may wish to pursue a career thats very different than their high school curriculum

Thats why many people with no scientific awards or such get into top Engineering programs…

Actually i dont really know why we are having such a discussion i dont think many of the univs ask you to like absolutely designate a major…atleast the ones where i applied did not…the most i was asked was at 2 (UPENN and Columbia abt whether i wanted to apply to SEAS or other college)…although i am not sure about LAC’s

hey dude if u wanna get first hand information about applying to LAC’s from current students go and post your question on ‘International SAT I and II results’ thread

International SAT I and II results’ thread its in intl’s forum
