Indian Thread

hello,…how RUDE :p…

Mercm: read the thread “intels taking a gap year”…the people are all about slipping into 2 gap years if u dont get thru. Careful abt that.

OOL…where art thou? no activity today?

Listen, any of you coming to the US this month for the Open Houses of any college on the east coast?

i think flamethrower is already there…

he is not the only one…this place is testosterone loaded, wat to expect…
and i know such and PA agree with me :p

a) Possibility of skipping a year is near zero. I’ll confrim that sometime around tthe 15th of June though.

b) 17

um, you’ll be taking a full gap year, wont you. I mean, if you get in at ED, do your classes start off in Jan or something?

oh, and http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2005-04-06-cover-ceos_x.htm

Thanks. I’ll need it…

Ok guys, let me confirm this ONE more time - can I, or can I not, apply as a freshman AFTER I’ve enrolled in a college?

Which univs allow this, and which have a policy against this?

Shashank, you want to be a CEO?! I can’t imagine going into business… I’m okay with my sci/techie aptitude + an interest in acquiring knowledge in broad areas. I don’t know about you guys, but the way I see it is: jobs and salaries are required only for subsitence, and acquisition of knowledge. Is it not true?

I cant imagine going into business either. The point is, becoming CEO is probably one of the most tough things to do without ivy/ivy level education. If that happens so easily, then i guess its not so bad…

i agree.

I believe engg is the pseudo-intellectual counterpart of the sciences. Buisiness is below engg (to me).

:stuck_out_tongue: wait till you get lashed out at by some of the ppl here.

But yeah my BSE statement said the same thing - that I have always been at the receiving end of things, and now I’d like to contribute. And Engg. is the most direct way to contribute to the world as it allows one to create useful, tangible products and services.

Engg is the closest to the consumer, i agree. But engg is also more mechanical than the pure sciences. IMO, if i dont do the engg part someone else can. I dont want to waste my intellect doing that.

Science, on the other hand, is at the fundamental level. All engg depend on science. At you have to face it - the scientific discoveries of the last century are nearing exhaustion. You cant indefinitely exploit the same experiment.

Thats why i put the ‘to me’. Its more of my interest than a general statement i made. I believe everyone should do what they want, and the comparison is based on my interest. I dont say business is inferior in general to science/engg. Its just that i dont think my mind is suite for it, just as the minds of others may not be suited for science.

Of course, you need to know the basics of Engg in sciences as well. If Heisenberg was a better engineer, Hitler woul have the Nuclear bomb before the Americans.

I’m not sure that’s true…the Germans did not even have the theoretical part fully developed.

BTW, how confident are you guys about the JEE?

I concur with what you are saying…i’ve often grappled with this issue- is business ‘noble’ enough?do i want to spend a large chunk of my life selling toothpaste? etc.
But I look at it as a medium of giving back to society, If i make more money, i can spend more on women’s education which is a cause i feel very strongly about

They did. They werent able to complete it on time because of 2 reasons

a) Heisenberg couldnt do the approximations for nuclear materials of non-symmetrical shapes. He tried all kinds of crap with huge sheets of Uranium, which were unwieldy and inefficient. The American Engineers (actually europeans but they worked for the Americans at Los Alamos) knew how to approximate calculations for cylindrical material.

b) The Germans had a severe shortage of Heavy Water. They depended on a single plant in Norway, but Heisenberg refused to listen to reason and did not get a new plant buitl. It is believed that if the Germans had 600 more litres of Heavy water, they could have tested the Bomb. The Americans knew this, and sunk a ferry carrying heavy water across a lake. Over 100 civilans died at the same time - norwegians - but the collateral damage was unavoidable.

mmm…forgive me :D

Nothing is “Noble”. Someone has to do it - someone has to do everything. You just need to figure out what u want to do, and what you are capable of, and go do it. Thats it. And about spending money on womens education, lets see how you feel about that when you actually have the $$$$

(PS - i dont imply USD. I just mean money)

And Gandalf, About the JEE, I think i should be able to clear the screening … (i hope) (hmm)() ()()…

Um, Gandalf, why are you worried about the JEE?

that is an extremely pragmatic approach to life
And I assure you that this is not the last time that you’ll hear bout me and women’s education!

Well, I have spent two years and lots of money on the JEE

and THAT is impressive…go ritz!!
