thanks for making me feel so much better :(

does anyone know when ISC results are coming out? Someone told me it was 12th May

thanks for making me feel so much better :(

does anyone know when ISC results are coming out? Someone told me it was 12th May

hey guys dont insult APs

Maybe Im a dumb twit compared to you all, but I found Physics C and Calculus BC really tough .A lot of their course is not even covered by our CBSE course(dunno abt ICSE),and imagine my condition when I found guys from class 11 in the American School giving these exams with me(they apparently do an even more advanced course of these subjects in class 12)

I swear Akash…they do 3D Calculus…which I just fail to comprehend right now.

ok Ill play the devil’s advocate here:)

Shash_Rao Physics B is easier than 12 CBSE ( because those idiots in india teach you stuff just for the sake of teaching it ) . Physics C on the other hand involves calculus based physics question which you might find a little easy too though i think its ■■■■■■■ hard . Physics here is more objective and theoretical based than numericals ( heres a huge absence of those questions on the other forum which is mailnly on formulas etc . )

And Shabin if you feel you 11th class vector geometry will help you pass the test then best of luck ! Please don’t pass judgement of an exam through just a thread.

This is coming from a person who has taken CBSE 10 exams, IIT practice exam in 11 as well as APs and IB tests. I can say that that APs are the hardest papers I have taken till now. Though the curve is favorable ( unlike the iit entrance) its still freaking hard.

Indie boy have you ever taken board exams in india? Have others taken AP classes or Ap tests ? na

anyway say they are a lot more easier, but Shash the US never told India to teach you people so much extra. Youll do everything again in college as well whereas with AP credit you wont. For the sake of fostering more and more competition, indian education has become a marathon in which the student who lasts the more studying and studying wins.

Akash thanks for the support lol

the thing is US education is everchanging unlike Indian which has been almost the same for the last 10 years. ( say for 2- 4 chapters)

Furthermore its highly possible that we do stuff which one would do in during second year in India and its also highly possible that we discuss mitosis and meiosis during 11th grade ( tho we did it in india during 7 th )

akash I had 3 sophmores ( 10) take the BC test along with us this time which i think i failed :D

hear hear

this year they are changing the HSC syllabus and u should see the panic in the juniors eyes

(OMG… i wont be able to solve last 20 years papers becos the portion is different!!)

i just saw the questions which students themselves had posted on the site and made my judgement on the AP’s… and the questions were idiotic…

nomad, I have tried the CET tests online and have faired miserably. I did not even understand a few questions. For the AP exams, you simply cram for a month before the exam –> Princeton review, Kaplan, and the Barrons and you can pretty much pass the exam with atleast a 3-4. Seriously, please…please don’t tell me IIT physics or any other section of the IIT exam is even close to being easier than the AP exams. No one will agree with you on this.

hmm nice post

on another note,
DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON KINGDOM OF HEAVEN

^worst movie i’ve seen in a lonnnnnnnnnng time

… and thread

I never said those are “harder”. Have you taken an IiT entrance exam? do you realize tha half of IIT entrance applicants prepare for it in the last month?

what? IIT exams are harder relatively. lol I think you have it the other way around

anyway there’s no use comparing both tests, the test are relative to the educational system , AP tests are HARD for us kids and IIT is HARD for indians ( people in america or anywhere else cant say anythign because they havnt really gone through the coursework for iit to pass a judgement)

Yes…but do you realize that 99% of them don’t make it?
And no I don’t have it the other way around.

hmmm, I actually liked it :o

About the whole AP vs JEE thing, overall I would say that the JEE is tougher than the AP. Having said tht, the AP’s are not easy. The AP’s tend to test concepts more than anything else. The calculations are pretty straightforward even if you dont use a calculator. The JEE exam on the other hand, tests concepts as well as calculation speed etc. Also, since calculators are not allowed for the JEE its gets really difficult. Sometimes, instead of spending time thinking of ways to go about a particular problem, you spend time doing tedious calculations. This is especially the case in Mathematics.

AP Physics, tends to have some interesting and challenging problems. Then again you have to see the percentage of difficult problems, for the JEE I would put it at 90-100% and for AP’s I would 40-60%. Again, these %'s are based on my ‘difficulty’ perception.

And AP chem, well its a joke :p

IIT admission tests are really easy… for a typical genius

lol those who make it study in the last month too ( only about 25 % of the applicants study IIT syllabus for 2 exclusively( now dont say 100 % of them get through ) , dude you obviously don’t know how iit entrance works

heh i misunderstood your comment abt the iit exam being easier . Its is harder, that doesnt make AP exams easier does it ? See my point?

~" do you realize tha half of IIT entrance applicants prepare for it in the last month?"

Some of my classmates started preparing for it from 10th std. onwards.
Many of the IIT students I have seen have prepared for the stuff for two years at least. Then, on top it, they are sent to special coaching classes in FIITJEE and KOTA where their minds are rewired only for JEE.

I think that Mercurysquad will be able to comment on this with better. MercuryS, what do you say?

-Does anyone of you have AP Material and Questions?

I am interested in knowing about it as I have never seen the course contents or its rigor.

Is there anyone who is willing to share AP Maths and Physics with me, Please ?

-

Shabin go to collegeboard.com and check some sample questions out

anyway they “start” preparing after 10th but most of the iit stuff is done in the last month when theyir institutes carry out crash courses. Until then its mainly a balance ebtween cbse boards and iit.

Merc the “enlightened” one where is thee?

Please elaborate.

nomad, Shabin was talkin about 11-D spacetime (11 dimensional, not 11th grade :p).

I can tell you two things -

A levels are at par with CBSE, maybe a wee bit easier.

In fact I remember the following ranking:

IB higher level > A Level > AP > ISC > CBSE > State Board
I would alter it this way -
IB hl = ISC > A Level = CBSE > AP > State Board

And - how the hell can you guys even think of comparing JEE and AP!!! Damn…

Also, scoring in AP exams is 1 to 5.
ISC/CBSE scores are 0-100.
That alone makes it cut-throat, when a difference of 0.1% means you might not get above the cutoff for that college you want to attend :-/
